My hubby is a heating engineer/gas fitter for British Gas. I know there are plenty of small companies in NZ doing this, but does it have an equivalent to British Gas?

You probably already know this , but the 'NZ board of plumbers and drainlayers' register gas fitters,
so they should have all the info you need.

You could try this site www.genesisenergy.co.nz. They are really pushing their natural gas supply at the moment. Trying to get people to sign up,
