Ian - suggest you send Rimbo (= John) a quick PM. He'll have the right info for you for sure, and has now started work in New Plymouth after going on a reccie about 2 months ago.

There are loads of internet cafes in towns all around NZ averaging about $3 an hour to use.

I'm doing the same as you, I think you'd be better with your laptop so that you can 'tweek' your CV receive emails etc when you want.
I'm thinking of setting up an internet account over in NZ when I arrive.
Hopefully it won't be too much of a hassle and then you can just pug in to a telephone socket.
When are you going (my flight is 29/07/05)?
If you want to PM me if you are leaving later than this, I might have some information.
Cheers

I used Netaway when we we over in NZ, they have local numbers you can access globally. You buy so many minutes, its on top of your local charges but we found local access in NZ very cheap at most of the hotels we stayed in. One only charged 5 bucks for an hour.
Take a lead to be able to plug your laptop into the phone sockets.
Hope this helps
Noel
