Lichen on the roof; advisable to get it removed?

The metal tiles on our roof (property 11 yrs old) have some lichen on them. We're being offered cleaning to prolong the lives of the tiles but at a cost of course and we're wondering if it's essential or a money maker from this rather pushy salesman?
Anyone had theirs done? And what price for a 4 bed home?

We have a highly visible steeply angled roof, and it is treated every 2 years by Edwards & Hardy. We've had no problems with them. And, the roof looks good. It's a cosmetic thing. The lichen tends to pull the stone chips off the tiles when it flakes off.
There are a number of companies offering this service so you could always get another quote.

Sounds like it needs a spray of " One spray and I walk away " :D

Actually the price of that stuff you can buy and the amount you would need to do a whole roof, it's probably worth getting someone in to do it for you. The quote we had was $289 - 190 sqm of house and garage.

After its cleaned, hang copper wire either side of the ridge stip and this stop it coming back, does not totally stop it but does really help. Also you dont get the green verdigris stains.
