Hi all,
We have now been in NZ for over a year now!!

My wife has had 3 jobs in various departments in Chch Womens Hospital and now she is a Nurse/Midwife at Rangiora hospital. We are living at Swannanoa.

My situation on the other hand is as bad as many other people, it seems that every job I apply for, I barely get a reply.

I am now considering going back to my Electrical background, which I haven't worked in for 17 years, but I have had my qualifications assessed and only need to do the stage 3 practical and the regulations exams and I will get my registration.

Due to the lapse in time that I have had, I am desperate to find someone that could take me on as an electrician to give me some experience for when I take the stage 3 and regs in November (and hopefully then keep me on!)

I would very much appreciate any help or advice, especially anyone that would be willing to take me on, or anyone that could put me in contact with an Electrician that could help me.

I am quite desperate and am considering if returning to the UK may have to be an option if I don't get something soon.

Thanks in advance for any replies, if you want to PM me, I can send email/contact details.

Thanks
Nick

Hi Nick. (great name):nice1

I'm a Hawkes Bay sparks, so can't help much, but...

Try this site; http://www.ecanz.org.nz/

Click on "Search for a MASTERelectrician" button.
Then look for companies in your area, then get phoning.
If the EWRB will grant you a prov licence then you should be OK.

I've heard on the jungle drums that there's quite a lot of electrical work in ChCh.

Good luck.:yes

Nick.:cheers

Hiya
Sorry to hear about your news, Cant help much on the job offer.
You have to go to college in Madras st to sign up for a Regulations course. It costs $300/400 give or take.I just did the course. it runs every monday 5.30 to 7.30. then its a 3 hour exam. (im still waiting for the results to come through)not sure when the new course starts for November exams. Your more than welcome to have my old papers.
The stage 3 costs $1300/1400 it is a one week block course, I will be on it in November. I tried to get one sooner but because there is no demand for it it only runs twice a year.
Have you applied for a provisional licence yet? you cant work without one. $34 for a year.
have a look on the EWRB website you can view passed exam papers, may give you a idea of what to expect when you sit your exams.
Sorry to give you more bad news, You have to sit a first aid course/work safety course too. Its a must have $75 from southern institute(cheapest place I could find) Its a one evening course.Hop[e to catch up with you if you decide to sit the block course in November. If you need more help just ask Ive got all the phone numbers of both colleges.
Cheers and good luck

I'd echo what Matt says and contact CPIT, they might have some leads.

Some places will try and sell you a full stage 3 course, when all you need to do is take the stage 3 practical assessment, if you feel confident enough.
I did this and stage 3 & regs cost $700 ish (2007)
The stage 3 (assessment only) took about 2 days.
A prov licence is only valid for 1 year and AFAIK not re-newable.
