Hi guys,

Great to have found the new forum. It took me 2 days to find it!
I know, I'm blond. They say that blonds have more fun, but I first had to find this forum though! ;)

Well, a few of you already know that we are very nervous doing the medicals. Our son had an inflammation of the brain when he was 6 months old. Result: he can't speak (and probably will never do), and doesn't use his right arm as it should be. He also has to take drugs to prevent seizures ("epilepsy?" is a question on the medical form). However I gradually stopped giving him medication in the last few weeks, we still have to find out if he keeps getting the seizures. So far no seizures, so we keep heart. He certainly is a smart kid, there is nothing wrong with his intelligence. At first sight you would say there is nothing wrong with him. He really doesn't have any scary diseases, he's just a normal healthy kid that has to live with the consequences for the rest of his life.

Now a few questions for all of you, who already had their medicals done:
Is the examination very intensive, or rather superficial? Are the examinations the same for children? At the time of the examination, does the doctor have a clue of the chances you have?
I would just like to know if the medicals seem to be a standard formality, or do they really thoroughly scan you to the bones??
A few months ago, Abdul gave me the advice to do preliminary medicals here in Belgium, just to get a thought of our chances. I thought it was a great idea, but when I contacted a doctor, he told me he just has to fill in the form and send it to NZ. So it wouldn't be much of a help to have the medicals done before we leave Belgium.

Any reply is very welcome, good or bad, we are going to NZ anyway, even if it would only be on a 2 year work permit. But we are very unsure about this. Our family's future is really depending on that one stupid medical exam. I could go on for hours about this, but I won't do that to you guys....or should I... hehe

Thanks for the input, cheers Lesly.

After submitting my post, I saw Moorf's post about the medicals, so I guess that already answers a bit of my questions. I should have read all new posts first, before I posted mine.
Sorry :angel
