Karl's been offered the job he interviewed for :clap We now have to submit the visa application:eek:
We are going to see Karl's (hopefully) new employer tomorrow to get the employer form filled out.
Has anyone got any advice around this? The employer advertised the job in the local paper, of which I have a couple of copies to submit for evidence, and also advertised on trade me. They interviewed several Kiwi's all of which were not suitable for different reasons, one was quite overweight, and the job involves physical loading of the truck, one had hardly any points left to go on his licence (it's for a class 5 truck driver job), one they found out takes lots of breaks whilst in a cab, one is the member of a gang, and I can't remember the rest. The owners wife was the one who called today with the news, and she told me about the other candidates. They are really very keen on hiring Karl, she said they considered giving the job to someone else, but he was the best of what was left.
Any advice on how best to do this to try and not leave any reason for the visa to be turned down would be most welcome, I know that nothing is certain, but I would rather not hand the turning down to them on a plate.
Thanks

That's excellent news Cath. :clap
I was gutted for you when I read your former thread saying Karl had been turned down for the job due to immigration demanding they employ locals first.
Fantastic news. Well done. :clap:nice1

Hi Duncan74, yes , I know, I've posted 2 conflicting messages, the other one is wrong!! This one is correct. I've got to run through our visa application forms to check they are correct.
Thanks for the good luck - I'm sure we're gonna need all of it and more!!

Brilliant news :clap :clap
read on here that for Primary teaching jobs for to be considered for points it has to be a permanant job offer (even though work permit is temporary)
a) does this apply to Karl's job?
b) is it true for Primary teaching jobs (also on ISSL)?
Sorry to hijack that bit Cath ;)

Hi Teadrinker, yes, the same, you need to find out which skill level teaching is at from ANZCO, if it is above skill level 4, then after 27th July, you will still qualify for a visa for longer than 1 year. I found an interesting page on winz website, it shows how many people in a particular area are unemployed in a particular employment area. I checked for truck driver in Taupo, and 3 people are registered as unemployed so that should help with our application as a labour market check is done by your co when you put in a visa application:

Really well done - a small victory for common sense and perseverance! Sounds like your employer did the right things...they checked for locals who could do the job and....they couldn't find one and could prove it (like I said decent drivers in NZ are as rare as rocking horse dung - two nights ago my neighbours wife reversed her car over a 6 foot drop so the rear (drive) wheels were in the air – whilst helping them out inwardly I was laughing so hard – right up to when an earthquake took the smile of my face – only in NZ)
Best of luck with the rest of the process and don’t forget to ask if there’s any questions you have about moving here….
….now in true Kiwi fashion when you move here I have a house to move ….can I borrow your truck? :D (Only kidding!)

It's great to read this latest update on my return. Well done Karl! :clap Hopefully the visa won't take too long to process. Where is the job based? Can you start thinking about getting yourself into more permanent accommodation now?
