Folks - I need abit of help please. Due to our delayed departure, I'm having to re-book the shippers. Going to have to get my timing just right 'cos I don't want the container arriving before we do.
So can you tell me how many week (or months :eek ) it took for your container s to arrive from the UK please.
Many thanks.

Ours took from 23rd October until 21st December think in total it was about 8 weeks.
Think it may depend on which shippers you use as to the length of time it takes, may be better to contact your shippers and see if than can give you an approximate indication?

Moorf , we have decided to use GB liners, was everything about your move ok???
The guy came back out to see us yesterday and I must say he has been the best salesman up to now. ( reassurance, positivity, helpful etc )
Our friends have just used them in a move to Christchurch, they were happy.
Good price too. :nice1

So far so good Jan.
They packed our stuff from the storage unit it was in - my mother supervised (poor them!!) but she said they did a great job, they have been in constant communication with me via email and the price was good too.

not long enough
5 weeks and 4 days door to door.
We didn't arrive here until 2 weeks 4 days before the container. Arrived at not a good time for renting - not much available so choice very limited. More time for property to come available would have been cool. It is nice to get all your own stuff though. You don't appreciate it until it is missing. I knew it was a mistake to put the wife in the container ;) ;)
A word of warning for anyone renting - a lot of tenancy agreements will by default be a minimum term of 6 months - no get out. Don't just rent somewhere in desperation thinking we'll hand our notice in when we find somewhere nicer/buy somewhere.

Couldn't face moving again so soon despite the mice, slug, and possible rat.

Like moorf i have gone with GB liners, who will be at the door 9am tommorow :eek . They have quoted me southampton to Dunedin 39 days on the sea and a week for customs and delivery and by the looks of it moorfs was 41 days dooor to door. And yes I found GB liners very competitive.

I'm just abit concerned that the container will arrive within a day or so of us :eek
I forgot to add on the extra few days for customs clearance at port. I guess if we need to 'hold it' a while we can pay for storage at the NZ Vanlines depot but this is just more expence that we want to try to avoid.
We just need to pick our dates very carefully. And hey ... what's one more thing to worry about in the grand scale of things?

you can probably gain a day or three by being suitably vague. dare I say it being a bit dippy about arrangements for MAF etc may get you a brief respite although read our previous posts about MAf fees (I am sure you did)
Don't rush into renting somewhere just cause you're container is arriving tommorow The first few months will be make or break and you don't want to be living somewhere you hate. Once your own stuff arrives it will make you feel like it should be home. Before it arrives you are "camping" we can all do that for a shorter or longer period of time. If the place you rent stands no chance of being a temporary home, the arrival of your own stuff will exacerbate the problem.
This isn't really aimed at you. it's just our experience. Not really a huge issue for us - we've "camped" at the flat we lived in London for the last 6 years before we moved here. I can't work out why our resident mouse hasn't come out to enjoy the heat of the fire. He/She must have heard us discussing the acquisition of a cat. R's allergy may not exist here ?

You'll be arriving in winter ish so it won't be quite holiday weather

I hope you don't suffer the same experience that our friends are having Diny. We were told last night that Pickfords haven't even sent the container (shared i might add) and our friends arrive in NZ on Saturday.
They came and packed the items (not alot) on the 11th March and were told the container would leave the following week and it would arrive at the beginning of May. Well they made a call earlier this week as they hadn't had any contact with Pickfords for a while, to be told the good news that it would be arriving in July :eek
Now really, that news would be enough to knock anyone back, but to make matters worse is that my friends tools (he's an electrician) are in that container. Pickfords told him to buy tools when they got there and they would compensate him at a later date. No point. That means he has two sets when his arrive. So we now understand that they may send them to Manchester Airport where they will be put on the flight with them.
So to all of you guys who are about to embark on this wonderful journey i suggest before you do, just give that shipper a quick call to make sure your stuff is a few weeks ahead of you.

Selling the lot and buying new over there suddenly seems a good idea :eek
