i wondered if anyone had experienced the same kind of thing, got my medical form back and my blood test has come back as abnormal under the white blood cell section, it is showing as low,has anyone else had this?
the doctor suggested that i go to my own gp and get the test repeated and hopefully will have gone back up
im applying under the partnership policy and wondered how it will effect things, i guess if they were not happy they would refere it to a medical assesor, does anyone know what the procedure is when you get refered to the ma?

Your CO will refer you to the MA if they feel it necessary once you send your paperwork in.
It may be of benefit to you to take the doctor's advice and see your GP as getting a normal result before sending your paperwork off could save you some time. Additionally including a letter from your doctor outlining possible cause, treatment etc may help if sent along with paperwork.
Normal MA turn-around time is 3-5 weeks per instance. This means your CO finds something abnormal, and sends the information they have to the MA. The MA may decide it isn't worth worrying about or may ask for further tests from specialists which you then need to send back to your CO at NZIS, who then sends it to the MA...and the process repeats until the MA is satisfied (or not!).

The MA's job is to assess cost and potential burden on the NZ health system so any information you can provide that outlines that information, and shows that it will be minimal, will be helpful (assuming you need to go through that, here's to hoping you don't :)).

Hello Kara,

If your test is not normal, they might refer you for additional laboratory tests until they are given the real reasons for it because blood cells can't be not in order without a reasonable cause. It would be very useful for you personally, it's easier to prevent a decease than let things go worse.

thanks for the advice, i have the 2nd blood test tomorrow at my gp so hopefully my levels will have gone back up then hopefully i can submit the form

Kara,
Sometimes if you are not well, the white blood cells give funny figures out. It happened with my OH and after we took another round of test with a gap of few weeks, everything came normal.

thanks thats good to know,
i had the repeat test yesterday and will get the restults in one weeks time
i asked if i could keep a copy of the results and they said yes so i can include them in with the medical form

We submitted our work permit applications just over 2 weeks ago, and Karl had an abnormal blood test result, we hadn't realised, and didn't know which one it was. His medical was referred to Wellington from Hamilton, along with mine that had a raised cholestoral as I failed my bmi by 1cm:roll
We were expecting weeks of waiting, redoing blood tests and me having to go on a serious crash diet:exit But, 2 weeks to the day we first submitted them, our passports arrived in the post with permits attached!!
I am no doctor, so wouldn't like to begin to suggest a reason for your non perfect result. I do believe I read somewhere on here that they do have a 10% tolerance on blood tests. I'm sure you will be ok.

finally got the blood test results back and managed to get a copy to enclose with the medical certificate
all seems good this time which is a big relief the section where my count was showing as too low has just managed to get into the normal range so hopefully wont cause any further problems with the application
I plan on now submitting my forms tomorrow at nz house, londonjust been waiting on these results, hopefully be able to submit it before the fees go up!
