Hi All

We (Myself, OH and DS)

Had our Medicals done today
It went OK Luckly I was under the required BMI and had to breathe in deeply for the waist measuring.

the bloods were a little more painful as Doctor thought he would be brave and try a brand new vein but my arm has swelled a little and is quite stiff.
(So I'm a little missrable tonight) where I should be out celebrating having completed these dreaded medicals.

Oh and the lightest thing was our wallet after the xRays and Medicals were done,

Cheers

I see this kind of thing on this board a lot (also: "Fortunately, the doctor did not pull the tape too tight..."

Waist measuring has not caught on in the US yet, but I would think the goal would be for as small a circumference as possible. (If breathing has any effect, one would probably want to exhale, not inhale; and you should encourage your doctor to pull the tape as tight as possible).

I'm just saying...

??? Puzzled about this - it's a statutory part of the medical.

As to 'breathe in' - think about how you lift the upper chest when trying to get through a narrow gap. That kind of in-breath, rather than an abdominal one, will decrease the waist-size.

Hi

I have been trying to upload photos of what my arm looks like after my blood tests.

I said it was sore when I got home on Monday and by this morning I have a huge blue pruple bruise on the inside of my arm. I went and saw my own doctor who said that the doctor who did the blood test went through the vein and it has been leaking internally and that it would probablly get worse before it gets better.

So Hopefully the arnica will get to work quickly and this bruise stops growing bigger.
Cheers

Sorry this happened and sorry I posted under your thread by mistake with my previous post.
Try heat for 20 mins 4 times per day, tylenol and elevation, avoid ibuprofen..
Hope you feel better

Plymgirl, that's rotten, and I hope it gets better soon. Where did you go for your medical?

What I meant to say was: Waist measuring is not part of a routine physical exam in the US. The only place I've ever had mine measured was for tailoring of a suit. Of course, that will change when I get around to having my NZ medicals.

Hi all

We've just been informed that my OH has failed his medical (he is Type1 diabetic and takes meds for blood pressure and cholestrol & has had retinopathy surgery). Am really cheesed off we had to supply a ridiculous amount of reports - and we did declare all this on the initial EOI and still got the ITA. Despite eye specialist saying condition had stabilised and would need no more surgery the MA has said in his report that it it likely he will require surgery within 10 yrs. MA also said OH was overweight (he's only 1/2 stone over) and would likely cost too much as he would seriously deteriorate over the next 10 yrs - it was quite a spiteful report and appeared to contradict what specialist had said as OH never has had renal problems and high blood pressure is common with diabetics. We are going to provide info for medical waiver but I've not got my hopes up - think we have a really 'by the book' MA and think NZIS are out to 'cherry pick' in the current economic climate.
