Help! Pregnant whilst applying for PR

Hi,
I'm new to this forum but really need some advice.

Myself, my husband and toddler are currently on 1 year work permits as a skilled migrant (my husband is a butcher) We put in our Expression of Interest and within a few weeks were given an Invitation to Apply.
We entered our Permenant Residency application with medicals taken before i was pregnant. Our agent reckons we'll have our PR within about 3 months.

I have just recently found out i am a few weeks pregnant and am basically really worried.
Do i need to keep quiet about this until our PR comes through or can i go to the doctors??? (we're already registered with a GP) Or will i be asked to provide proof of residence?

I am really worried about this and really hope someone knows what to do, as i dont want to speak to anyone just yet just in case it gets us in trouble with our PR application!

Help!

It is dependent on the midwife, but depending on how well staffed your area is you may be able to arrange seeing one before you get your PR. If anything does go wrong though you will have to pay for it out of pocket. I'm not sure if you can get insurance to cover that now that you are pregnant but it is very much worth looking into. I would call some midwives in your area and explain your situation and see what they say. I forgot to say you can certainly go to the doctor. It will cost more than for a resident/2+year permit holder.
This link may be of interest to you.
http://www.moh.govt.nz/moh.nsf/indexmh/eligibility-guide-pregnantpartner though from what you say your partner doesn't currently have the relevant type of permit for you to qualify.

I would PM you some more information, but I can't until you have made 5 posts.
...anyhow, if you are referred to the MA you will need to tell them you are pregnant. There can be implications in this if you are referred for a high BMI. This is likely the only situation in which there could be trouble with you being pregnant. As your ITA is in there should be no issues if you are not likely to be referred. Basically all you can do is wait at this point.

I wouldn't worry too much- I applied while pregnant and I know I'm not the only person. Also, some countries have reciprocal agreements regarding birth- where are you from? If it's the UK I can send you some info. PM me if I can be a help.

And congratulations! NZ is a great place to have a baby.

We also applied while I was pregnant too....does not cause any issues with getting PR, we just informed our case officer. The only issue you'll have is the cost of medical care until you get your PR, or if your medical that was done prior to your pregnancy gets referred to the medical assessor for any reason. In that case you would need to declare your pregnancy as the result of any blood tests such as cholesterol etc will be affected by your pregnancy, and the same for BMI...it's pretty much meaningless in later stages of pregnancy unless you were very obese to begin with.

Hi Everyone,

Thanks so much for all your reply's. I feel SO much better now, i just panicked as i saw an article saying a pregnant lady on a student visa got sent home.

I'll speak to my GP soon and arrange a midwife. Hopefully it wont be long now until our PR comes through.

Thanks again for everyone's reply's, you've all been very helpful.

Kind Regards,
Christie
