Yesterday when hubby and I were clearing out the garage, we came across our tent. I don't remember reading anything about anybody taking theres across and if so what are the MAF inspections involved.
We would like to take it as we were hoping to join the possie of North Islanders who will one day, hopefuly be having a camping meet. :nice1

I recall someone on one of the tv shows taking their tent Jan.
If my memory serves me, MAF kind of semi-erected it at the owners new home, and then had a rummage inside with a dustpan and brush.
As long as your tent is clean, I dont think you will have a problem.
You got me harking back to the good old scouting days now Jan. Will be looking closely at the camping scene when we get there.

our daughter brought the tents over with her when she came out last year. it had to be inspected by customs which is what you would expect, but they just said to her to pop it into them once it was unpacked!!! so they could check it. So they unpacked it, cleaned some pegs they weren't sure of and took it in for checking. All ok.
But as long as it has no soil or seeds lurking on it it should be fine.

As Veronica said
Just get rid of all the mud and grass and pine needles and you'll be fine. MAF will probably want to see it but in all honesty they are well aware that anything from the UK that may be an eco/bio hazard probably came here 200 years ago so there is not much point cleaning Earth worms out of tents that last experienced the real world somehwere in Derbyshire or Glastonbury
A different story if you are arriving from OZ or more tropical areas eh

Hi Jan,
We are campers and I am sorry to say to try to avoid the MAF thing we bought a new tent BUT it was still given a cursory glance - this means she saw the box and said ' new is it' and that was it.
Saying that - swings and roundabouts - we couldn't say it was new or we would have to pay import duty on it, thats why she had a glance at it - my theory was it had not been used but we had had it for 2 months therefore it wasn't actually new. I wonder what she'd have done with it if it hadn't been in the box.??

We brought all our camping equipment with us on the plane. Our luggage was delayed in Auckland, so everything was delivered to our rental home in Chch later on the same day. Some of our bags/suitcases had been opened for inspection, but there were no problems.

OMG been there. I'm sure most happy campers have. Even tried to do it in the rain. Tempers do seem to run amok
