Hello all,

I am hoping somebody maybe able to help us out?
My husband and I and two kids have been living in Perth WA for two years and feel it's time to go home for many reasons.
The only concern we have is weather there is enough work as a plasterer.
He has worked nearly all his years in NZ with this trade but prior to us leaving NZ things were not good as far as getting plastering work ,which is why I'm here posting this.
Is there work for plasters at the moment in NZ? .
We are looking at moving back to North of Auckland (Warkworth).
My husband is also keen for a change of career but it's good to know that his trade can be used in the mean time and as a safety net.

Thanks in advance.

With the way things are going, all green and so on, I’d imagine there is plenty of work around for plasterers.

I learnt to plaster in the UK, I find the NZ version rather frustrating, although I understand why we do it this was (the ground is a bit shaky ay lol) but I’m not a tradesman. I have just finished plastering my spare room, having gutted it to fit insulation. I’d happily pay a plasterer to have done the job for me if only I could have found one…..

My thoughts are, there isn’t a shortage of work, particularly since we all seem to be ripping the walls down to fit insulation!

:-( Looks like work for plasterers is not so good :-( in the Rodney area and have heard even Auckland does not have any work.If anyone has any info that can tell us we are wrong and that there is work it would be amazing,so far it looks like we may not be able to go home :-(

Thanks.

This from 'career services'.

Job opportunities for exterior plasterers have decreased since mid-2008, largely due to a slump in the number of new houses and apartments being built in New Zealand.

However, continued strength in the commercial (non-residential) building sector, and ongoing renovation work mean opportunities are still available.
