Hi there, I’m TimAck's OH and need a little reassurance.

I have been looking on all the usual jobs sites and am slightly worried about the lack of marketing jobs about in Christchurch. Most of the jobs that come up seem to be sales jobs.

I have been approached by the NZ branch of the company I currently work for in the UK who are launching the product I manage the marketing activity of, however, the job is based in Auckland and we plan to settle in Christchurch where Tim’s friends and family live.

I feel worried turning down a perfectly good opportunity (in a recession) when I can't see much around in Christchurch.

Anybody any thoughts or advice??

Other than this little worry I'm extremely excited about out future adventures in NZ in 11 weeks and 2 days - not that i'm counting!

Thought I would respond to your thread, depends what in Marketing you are looking for but the job situation down here in CHCH has improved greatly from what is was a few months ago. At the moment on Seek there are over 5 pages for Marketing roles in CHCH.

Perhaps, we're really beginning to see the first signs of green shoots sprouting in Christchurch? Let us pray that this Spring brings good climate for sustainable long-term growth for NZ as well as the wider global economy. There also seems to be an uptrend in the number and variety of job vacancies here.

On an affirmative note, this week's BNZ Review commented that, "...businesses are saying they no longer intend laying off staff...".
