Oven cleaning

Since coming back to the uk, i have set up an oven cleaning company, its only 3 months old but really really busy, it was something i hadnt thought about before but after research i decided to give it a go, its quite a new phenomenon in the uk but definitley booming.

Now we are thinking of coming back to nz again, i would like to bring my new skill to new zealand, but on our last spell there i didnt see too many oven cleaning companys around, does anyone on here use oven cleaners in nz?

Any advertised ,locally ? i cant see too many online, im wondering whether it is a gap in the market to exploit or whether kiwis just dont care, i know there are plenty of general leaning companys out there but only specialist firms with the special tanks can get an oven back to new.

I'm sure they do.(Kiwis use oven cleaners) There are plenty of good oven cleaning products in the supermarkets that work well. If you wanted to set up a business I would think you would have to offer more than just oven cleaning.

I can't imagine letting my oven get so dirty that I'd need to employ a professional company to clean it.
Walshy what do the special tanks do that normal oven cleaner can't? I'm intrigued by the whole concept of employing someone just to clean an oven!

My aunt uses an oven cleaning company once a year to do their oven and BBQ. So they are definitely around.

There's an 'oven cleaning' car that drives around Tauranga. Looking at the state of the car I'm not sure they get much business though!

You're supposed to clean ovens?

Well its big business here in the uk, there are hundreds iof vans on the road, i see its getting very popular in australia as well. Older people and young professionals are my main clients, and once they see how back to new we get it they never bother themkselves again

The cans of product you get in supermarkets are useless, we properly valet them, meaning all the bits you cant see get cleaned as well, there are loads of bits and bobs in side an oven that can be removed that the genearl public dont know about that all come out and go in a tank and come up like new, doors come apart so you can get all the scum out, they reall come up new, check out my website www.clean-oven.com.

I was thinking more like $120 to clean an oven, as we chage minimum £50 here, I know Australia starts at around $100.

I had a window cleaning business last time in nz and most houses were around $100 twice a year, cant see having your oven cleaned twice a year would be less, same amount of effort, couple of hours, to show how big businesss it is here, look at these larger companys http://www.ovenu.co.uk/ http://www.ovenclean.com/

I reckon marketed right new zealand is a bit ripe for this, but i dont want to give you lot idea so will shut up now

In fairness then even at £50 it's cheaper than moving, which is what we did last time the oven got really dirty.

Cleaning the oven is the worst job in the world i would happily pay someone else to do it. :D

There are a few around here and some that do BBQ cleaning, I think it's a really great idea to get the oven proessionally cleaned, especially when you move into a scuzzy house ( like I did). People selling houses might be interested for the purpose of open homes etc. I can think of lots of people that would use the service.

I expect as a business you could pick up regular commercial work or do contracts for cafes and such like. If you enjot it and think you can make a living from it, give it a whirl.

We just had oven clean plus in to clean the cooker and hood in the house we have bought...........it was disgusting and i said new cooker or get some one in.........hubby said get someone in for the moment as we are going to change the kitchen in the not too distant future. Cost $100 for the filthiest oven and hood i have ever seen took them over two hours to clean. Talking to the couple who own the business they said they are always busy and the business tends to be for rental agencies or for people like us who want a good clean of the cooker they are taking over from someone else.

I must admit they did a grand job and its come up exceptionally well........would recommend them if your in the Tauranga area they are in the phone book.

Good luck with your business - when OH and I bought the house we are currently in (in the UK), the sellers left us the most disgusting oven imaginable, so much so that I was ready to take it out and replace it because I certainly wouldn't have cooked anything in it. I got a professional cleaner in to do it and the hob and by the time he finished they both looked like brand new. I think it cost me around £60 and was worth every penny. I keep them both shiny and clean with various oven cleaners now but even the very best of them can't take it back to that original clean state.

I'd not heard of such things till about a year ago.
I'm certainly going to use one before we go. The oven is staying here but we are (hoping) to get tenants so the oven needs to be clean and look good. We are taking our micowave combi oven so I want that clean before we go.
Hadn't heard of / thought of using acompany to clean the BBQ. We have one that has only been used once and kept coverd over in tgeh garden ever since. Not even looked at it. If we can get it clean easily enough we will take it with us. Would be a waste to not use it - and embarrassing as it was a gift from the in-laws!

Walshy - how far north do you go? I guess Bletchley is out of your area?

Getting your oven cleaned by a professional was recommended on one of those 'do your house up to sell it' programmes.

Never heard of
Bletchley Park?
Codebreakers (WW2)?
Enigma Machine?

We are too far for you - I knew that.
About 50 miles north of London. There is an oven cleening company up here that I still have details of.

If it's only just taking off in NZ then go for it and good luck to you. Or should htat be 'good on yer'?

Who would have thought that Bletchley and the Enigma would get two mentions in as many days on this forum?

As for oven cleaning, she's the one that makes it dirty, I never go near it, so of course it's the beloved's job to clean it. Only fair. :exit

I was only saying te other day I wish there was an oven cleaning business here in Wellington that was like the one I used in the UK called Kookaburras, thought maybe it had come from OZ in the first place. Never seen my cooker looks so clean. They dipped the stuff in the back of the van.

Best way to test your business idea is to set up a website ahead and see if you get any hits or inquires. It's a hard market in NZ for most things, not sure why. See if their is an existing franchise for it and then see if they are being sold due to lack of customers. Seems to be a lot of cleaning franchises up for sale. Get yourself a carpet steam cleaner as well and you could be a great asset to landlords.
