A couple that I know are going to Oz - they were told that they had to have their bikes fumigated - making them impractical to bring over (cost presumably). Does the same aplly to NZ?

Steam clean the wheels & clean the rest of it up & you should be OK - never heard of a mountain bike having to be fumigated though - just immaculate!

I got my parents to bring my mountain bike out with them when they visited us last year , and they had no problems (even though it was less than immaculate)
they did look like a very funny old couple coming through arrivals, with a mountain bike, that had a snooker cue and fishing rod strapped to either side .

Yeah, I couldn't resist another bike post...
We brought 4 bikes into NZ, no cost other than the shipping cost. Didn't steam clean them, just washed very very thoroughly. Steam cleaning isn't much good for bikes anyway as the high pressure jet works water into bottom brackets and headsets, which isn't what you want. So stick to a sponge and a bucket!
After you're done with that, get some stinky Jeyes fluid or similar and double-clean the tyres.
Don't forget to lube afterwards. GT85 spray is good for bikes.
Good luck.

One last bike post... we scrubbed the bikes v v clean and removed the tyres and mud guards, both of which were due for a replacement anyway. no probs, though the box was checked.
