At last the house is sold!!! The next move is to visit NZ on a job hunt / schools / area / house check etc. I wanted to keep in touch both in NZ and at home using email via a laptop. Does anyone know if this possible using mobile phone technology? Are ISP's (like Wanadoo) FOC as they are in the UK?

Hi Phil,

Good luck on the job hunt! I wouldn't bother going along the mobile phone route for access, it will be expensive. I'm not sure if the Vodafone network has GPRS in NZ (anyone know?) and the other networks are CDMA, which will need a new phone. There are plenty of Internet Cafe's in all the large towns and dial-up access is available, but not free. One that was recommended to me is www.lynx.co.nz, Christchurch based.

As far as I am aware there are no free, pay as you go, ISP's in NZ, they all charge a monthly fee with the lower cost plans ($15 pcm) having a usage cap beyond which you pay extra.

When we were over last May I just made sure I visited the Internet cafe each day.

Cheers, and good luck again! :nice1

Hi,

Internet cafe's offer high speed access. While I was there I only used their machine's, not sure if you can plug your own in (anyone?).

Cheers,

Mark. :P
