Accordion Case - rusty

Hiya,

I have recently acquired an accordion, and whilst the instrument is in very good condition, the case is incredibly rusty - we are going to be shipping it (somehow, I don't think OH would be impressed with me using up about 1/3 of my baggage allowance with an instrument ;-) ), but do I need to scrub off the rust before it goes? It's not a dirty case at all, and I can't see "rust" on the prohibited imports page of MAF...

If you get rid of any loose bits which might harbour creepy-crawlies or seeds, there shouldn't be any problem. It's not grime as such they're against, but any non-NZ living entities.

Another thought - what about the lining? Make sure it doesn't look at all manky or smell musty (think microbes or the moth).

Oooh - will check - I seem to remember that it wasn't too bad, but will look at with my "MAF Head" on (can always reline if I need to)

Hey - I've got one of those (without the rusty case :D)
Are you putting it in a container or shipping it in boxes?
Would be interested in hearing how you are getting it there and how you are planning on packing it.

The majority of our instruments are going in our container (that would be the accordion, didgeridoo (once checked for woodworm and other insects!), rennaisance drum, electric keyboard, glockenspiel and melodica...), my oboe is coming over in my hand luggage.

With regards to packing - very thoroughly! Lots and lots of bubblewrap, and I'm going to get hold of those sachets that come in shoe boxes to try to stop the worst of the moisture getting in. :uhoh

Let us know how they travel, please. We've got all sorts, too.

Will do :-) Though we aren't transporting till October, and so won't be getting them till Nov... I'm a bit worried about atmosphere and moisture getting in, but it's either that or not bring them, and I couldn't bear to part with any of them!
