Don't know if there's more of you that have to have their qualifications assessed by NZQA, but right now I'm starting to get pretty distressed.
There's one main diploma of which the school merged with another one and they changed name and (slightly) the adress.
Ok we knew this ahead so we had them make us an official stamped and signed copy with the new adress of those certificates. Sent those off to our middle person who takes care of the paperwork in NZ. All taken care of, we think. This was beginning of march, that NZQA started the process.
Then about 2 weeks ago the school contacts me, NZQA sent their inquiry to a wrong adress, so it had been lying around there for a bit (2 weeks) before it got to the school. No problem, it got there in the end, she ticked the few boxes that were needed (Really that is all there is to it!) and sent it off again.
Well this morning we get an email from our middleperson from NZQA after I enquired if there was any news yet, they had not received the form back yet! Now I'm getting pretty anxious, so I sent copies again by email, with the right adress, phone numbers and all you can think of, name of the secretary, fax number, you name it I sent it!
I was thinking we might get the result in by now, but no such luck, I mean after the job thingy going wrong last week, I thought we deserved a little break...no way.... :no
Ok I'll stop whining now, and go get a shower and walk my doggies, maybe the spring sun will get it out of my system, I hate this waiting!!!
p.s. Are all UK (USA?) diploma's accepted without assessment by the NZQA?

Dear Hannah,
Iīm feeling with you, since I have to go through it all, too.
Here is a reply I got to my thread:
My advice is that if you want things to go as quickly and smoothly as possible - do as much of the leg work yourself as you can - onerous, I know. I work with a german lawyer and she has had terrible trouble getting an accurate translation of her practicing certificate from the german institutions. I would suggest you pay to get your qualifications translated and then certified by a german lawyer/notary. If you can anticipate/provide the answers to most of NZQA's questions in a format that is acceptable to them - then I think half the battle's won.
The more effort you put in at the start, should help the NZQA wheels turn quicker and maybe make them see you've gone the extra mile.
I donīt, if it helps, but in a german forum, they said:
"When itīs relating to business, I am always afraid of having the wrong person at the other end. And mostly I have."
Good Luck

Oh Hannah,
We seemed to be on a roll at first. Now we seem to have hit a patch whereas nothing is going according to plan. We are still not out of the woods ourselves and each day we are a little tetchy but keep going.
Hope everything starts to fall into its rightful place.

Two more weeks of waiting till we know more :yes
-I really need to grow more patience, anyone got a good manual for that?-

Hi Hannah,
please keep me posted. Im just preparing all documents. if you could give me a list or some samples I would be grateful.
In Germany itīs hard to get something in English. Thus I am trying to have as less to translate as possible.
Cheers

Hi Zensamurai, this is what we sent them, following the official list from NZQA site:
http://nzqa.govt.nz/for-international/qual-eval/international/documents.html
"The following original documents are required:
-certificate of completion of final year at a general or junior secondary school
-degrees and diplomas, or other award certificates from tertiary institutions, trade schools, technical colleges or specialised senior secondary schools
-transcripts of results or mark sheets for degrees, diplomas, or other award certificates
-evidence of vocational or trades training (contracts with your training employer, completion certificates and trade tests, if applicable)
employment records or employer references describing your work experience
-current practising certificate, registration or licence as appropriate."
In other words, we sent them a package with all the diploma's, mark-sheets, employers records, everything with a diploma that might be needed in NZ to get a job and that will get us the needed 50 points for quals for the EOI.
All the originals, with translations and copies of all that, a BIG package in our case... :eek

Thanks Jan and Anita, I should not let the dips get to me that easily I guess, but it was really bugging me that even tho we supplied NZQA with the right stuff, they even then were able to send to the wrong adress anyway. And then it seemed like the documents were lost somewhere along the way back...
Feeling much better now, trying to practise the more patience thingy ;)

I sent my docs to them on 21st April and I know they were delivered on 22nd April 'cos I checked with the courier. I called them today because I hadn't had an acknowledgement and they said they were received on 28th April. I reckon they sat there in a pile waiting for somebody to open the courier envelope and start to process them
At least I now have an application number and will just have to be patient. :wah again. This emmigration stuff is a real pain in the backside at times - considering how much you have to pay for everything

Hi Sandra, better calculate at least 2-3 months for the final outcome.
Maybe you will do better since you're from the UK originally? I hope so!
Wishing you good luck!

Hannah
I don't want to put a downer on this but NZQA received all our documents on 21st Feb and we only got the assessment back last Tuesday :no . We ended up having to send our ITA in wihtout it as our medicals were about to run out. NZQA state that their guarantee turnaround time is only fo thier bit of the work and blame delays on the education organisations in the UK providing the relevant info.
Ria
17th May 2005, 01:04 AM
Like Nessie, we submitted our ITA's back at the end of March, without my NZQA full assessment. Got a letter from NZIS saying I should have a case officer in 2- 4 months (as those with job offers being dealt with first).
Got an email from NZIS about 2 weeks ago asking when I submitted the NZQA request (told them it was sent 11th April - rec'd 18th April). Emailed NZQA to try and get an update - said they had read my original docs and were sending them back (posted 2nd May, rec'd UK 6th May).
Got another email from our case officer, that (wait for it) NZQA can take up to 10 MONTHS!!!!! :eek :eek :eek , so would I like to do a phone interview now :uhoh :uhoh :uhoh . Thought what the hell - might as well get hung for a sheep as well as a lamb! Had the interview last Friday (seemed a nice guy - but wait until we hear their answer). Anyway, this guy said that the minute you lodge your application the medicals and police check are FROZEN as at that date - so if any of you are only waiting for the NZQA report, I'd lodge now and just explain that this is still outstanding.
We are 105 points and no job offer and they got to our application in just over a month - so thay can't be REALLY busy.
Said we will get a written response within 2-3 weeks, subject to the NZQA report being a level 5 or above (pre-lim assessed as level 6).
So now it's just another sit & wait session. I'm chewed my nails up to the elbows already, so a few more inches won't make any difference.
Don't know if this helps anyone (probably not).
Good luck
Ria
PS - The first question he asked was a killer..................
'Why DO you want to emigrate to NZ?????' = answers on a postcard.................

NZQA Time table: (short version)
January 25: We sent off the lot to our consultant in New Zealand.
Febr 1: Consultant received it and will forward after she checks
(she has a few good tips and works fast so it isn't her)
March 1: First request by NZQA about one of the schools.
March 16: Original Documents received back from NZQA.
April 26: They asked (again) for an adress of one school in particular.
March 16: NZQA started assessment "for real" (ie they had all the right stuff I guess).
April 8: We find out NZQA used the wrong adress for the school anyway,
even tho we supplied the right adress twice.
We email our consultant who contacts the NZQA about this
April 27: Recieved an email from NZQA that says this:
"late yesterday we recevie verificaiton so we will issue a report within 10 working days.
Due to volume of work there is no point in me promising it any earlier".
It's now May 16 ... Maybe they work part time?
btw I copied and pasted their text, so those are not my typo's ;)

Well, guess what?
I found our NZQA result in the email this morning!
Level 5 so that should get us the needed 50 points we need to fill out the EOI.
Small party tonight, just some :cheers and pretzels ;)
But I feel so much better now! On we go... :nice1

Great news Hannah :nice1
Karen and I heard from the NZQA (simular timeline to Ria) last week to say that they've done their assessment and that they're now forwarding it to the Teacher's Council for them to do their bit (Karen's going to Teach out there hopefully).
We heard yesterday that we'll be getting our interview either this week or next, then they'll hold on till they get the Teacher's Council all clear before they'll tell us their decision.
Things are moving again on the travelator to immigration (images of Gladiators pops into mind :laugh )
