PR vs. WtR and Principal Applicant status

My ITA is currently with my CO and I'm getting some other bits and bobs together for her (NZQA and Teachers' Council registration).

I'm the principal applicant on the ITA and do not yet have a job offer (since I can't get employment as a teacher until registered with the NZTC). However my wife has already accepted a job which starts at the end of January.

I'm wondering if anyone knows what effect, if any, this will have on whether we get PR or WtR? Will the whole family (2 kids) get the same or can they all get PR and I get WtR due to lack of a job?

We're thinking that she should have probably been the principal applicant instead of me, but also that it shouldn't make any difference who is: that the idea of a principal applicant doesn't really make sense in our situation (we don't have a principal partner in our relationship!)

Anyway, any clues?
