Musings whilst feeding Lazza

It was down to me this evening to give Lazza his "bedtime" feed and whilst leaning on the gate in the moonlight gazing up at the stars and the planes on their final approach to Christchurch airport I thought to myself "Yup it doesn't get much better than this"
Why?
Well.
For me, Ben, farming has always been in my blood and I have lived in the countryside all but 3 years of my life.
To be able to lean on the gate I hung earlier that week feeding what will be our Easter lunch next year whilst contemplating the fencing to be done tomorrow for me is my piece of heaven.
To have your own land, to rear your own meat and grow your own vegetables is a dream come true for Clare and I and to do it in such a fantastic place as Canterbury is icing on the cake.:D
Happy as a pig in muck? You bet ya :nice1
Oh yes pigs, they'll be here in late Oct

I feel a bit like that when I clean my teeth on the verandah at night and look at the mountain lit up by the moon, and listen to the morepork. (As opposed to the nights when it's blowing a gale and it sounds like the house is going to fall off the hillside).

For myself there is nothing like country life. The green fields, stock grazing, the peace and quiet, natures beauty all round, nothing better. There was a big moon in the sky last night shining over the paddocks, lovely.

I fully appreciate what you're saying Ben, as this is my idea of heaven too.:)
After growing up in a 14 storey council flat in London, I always dreamed of one day living somewhere where I could own lots of animals (especially horses)!! :D
I feel NZ has made all my dreams come true (along with my fantastic hubby of course) :D, as not only do I have chickens, a cat, a dog, a ram (for whom we will be getting a new ewe someday soon), guinea pigs, and over 100 goldfish in our pond, but three lovely horses as well!!!!
My Nan said to me the other day, "I guess this means your not coming home then", to which I replied, "Absolutely not!! and even if I did, I would have to build a bloomin' Ark first"!!!:laugh

...when I clean my teeth on the verandah...
That's taking rural living just too far, besides, you'll get splinters in your gums if you do that; use a brush like the rest of us.

Love it :D
And now Lazza has a mate.
Local sheep farmer came up with the goods and in time honoured tradition a box of beers changed hands :nice1

Ahhhh! Sweet!
We'd planned to do the same but DD2 got so upset at the thought of eating it and we shied away from the night feeding, (bad enough doing own 3 kids albeit several years ago!), so it'll have to wait a few years. But good on you.
For me, growing a few veg., will have to suffice for now.
