Hi,
My husband's interview is this Friday, and I was wondering if more experienced members of the forum could, again, list the common questions. I did a search on telephone interview and Nzis Interview and came up with so many previous postings it is impossible to read them all. I know this is an stressful issue for most of us, so if our more " senior" members could post the questions they recall having been asked- that would be very helpful to the rest of us, especially in one string. We will post those questions asked of us by the London office, after Friday. Hope us luck!! :P
By the way, we submitted our final paperwork in late March, 2004, to give people a time frame and we are from the USA, no job offer.
Here are some questions I got from previous posts-
1. why nz?
2. what would you do as soon as you arrive in NZ?
3. what is your plan?
4. do you have any relatives/friends?
5. What kind of media did you use for research about NZ?
6. What will you do if you don't get a job as quickly as you would have hoped?

I have to add that other than being confident and adding in anything that makes it sound as though you have put a lot of time and effort into reserching NZ and what you are going to do there, then you have listed pretty much all the questions I was asked.
I had no job offer and got PR
The very best of luck
Let us know how you got on.

This is what my hubby posted after his/our telephone interview:
Hey everyone...it was not like the Spanish Inquisition after all !!!!
The Case Officer who called was really nice and was just friendly throughout the 30 minutes the whole thing took. After I came off the phone Babette told me that I never let the poor woman get a word in. I'd like to say that this was my cunning plan but it was more down to nerves than anything else. I do tend to witter on when I'm nervous !
No surprises on the questions front...stuff about what I'd done to look for employment so far, support when we get to NZ, what I'd do if I came across any obstacles, what I thought about the impact of migrants on the socio-economic balance of New Zealand and the wider South West Pacific basin (I just made the last one up...sorry).
Best of luck :nice1

I agree with your list of questions and the replies you have had so far.
Just be confident and show that you've done some research, you'll be fine. :nice1 :yes

We were asked what sort of support we would have in our new country (did we know anyone) - NO!
How much money did we think we needed to make a good living in NZ
How long did we think it would take to find work
I'll have to ask Rob about any more questions...

They asked hubby the questions.
Mainly how do you plan to make friends
How do you intend to find work
What will your Partner do for a living.
What steps will you make to find work and friends.
What if you do not find work in the area that you have chosen to live.
How will you support yourselves
Where will you live.
When do you want to go
Do you know people over there
What have you heard about NZ
Has anyone given you any advice about moving to NZ
Do you have support from your family.
They def ask you how you will overcome barriers that you encounter
Schools
Hobbies
Those are the ones I remember him saying
They ask you loads!
They ask if you have any questions
We wrote notes about where we wanted to live
work
wages
property
if we have visited etc
financial situation
why we wanted to go
We also had a copy of our cover letter etc so we were ready!

I had my interview this morning, and since this was the thread that helped me the most, I thought I'd give it a bump.
My case worker had me call him in London (can't wait to see that phone bill :( but at least no anxious waiting by the phone) and asked me the following:
What have you done to research the NZ job market in your field?
Same question about my husband.
(When I mentioned businesses and recruitment agencies I'd spoken with, he asked what kind of response I had gotten from those places.)
What do you think will be the biggest barriers to finding a job?
What will you do if you can't find a job in your field?
How much do you think the two of you will need to make? (He wanted a $ amount)
What have you done to research the cost of living and housing prices?
(He also asked if we went to any open houses when we were in NZ)
What have you done to determine where you would like to live?
What are your housing plans when you first arrive?
Do you know anyone in New Zealand?
(I know someone so he asked how often I speak with that person and what kind of support we could expect.)
Thanks to everyone here who's shared so much advice, I felt remarkably calm. I must have had the same UK interviewer as Karen and Rich Mathews describe on another great thread (http://www.emigratenz.org/forums/viewtopic.php?p=36315&highlight=#36315) because I was asked to keep my replies brief, and it was pretty formal. But he was nice enough, and it only lasted 15 minutes!
After the questions, he asked me to email him authorization to withdraw our migrant levy fee. He said if we got an email or phone call it would probably be to request more information, and that if I heard nothing things were probably moving forward with the visas. He said I could email him in two weeks if I had questions about the progress. I said, I guess if I see the levy come out of our account it's a very good sign, and he said yes, exactly. (I wasn't offered the opportunity to wait on paying the migrant fee - I guess b/c we sent our original passports).
Anyway, thanks again for all the help! I haven't posted all that much, but it's because I've found a wealth of answers just by searching here. You guys are terrific!
