Relocation Expenses

Is there a nice way to ask for moving expenses? Should I bother asking? I'm not moving to New Zealand for the job...I'm taking the job because it's in New Zealand.

Back to work,

Doesn't do any harm to ask, as long as you do it politely. Have you already got a job lined up, and have they told you the salary? If not then I'd mention it in the way of a request for details of the pension / leave / relocation policies. Lump it in with other things to take the pressure off, but still put it on the table for them to say "on your bike matey!" ;)

Not sure about your field, but it certianly has been commonplace for a long time in mine (highway engineering), although in fairness it's worth having a discussion about how that would also change the starting salary as it may be in your interests if you've a few $$$ saved up not to take the relocation (which will have tie ins) but to take a higher salary and no up front cash.

Thanks Duncan,

I had a(n unaccepted) written offer in hand.

My request was rejected: No money for relocation expenses, but it did not hurt to ask. Maybe this will help me convince my wife she does not need to take 500 kilos of books...

Aw, come on... everybody has different things that are necessary for their comfort, however much they don't make sense to someone else. What's your comfort blanket? ;)

Personally I (& Co) would agree with your wife....maybe that's the reason for the 40@ hi container though...;):yes:D
