Register of Recognized Qualifications

It lists level 5 as "Diploma", does this mean college? or does a high school diploma count here also (i.e. my husband graduated high school but I did not list him as having a recognized qualification on our EOI thinking it meant college. Is there another 20 points we could be claiming?)

Sorry, I don't know the US education system well enough to answer, but have a look at the ops manual and see if this helps you.

From my reading of that then any high school diploma doesn't count (without NZQA assessment). In the UK then Diplomas can be awarded by universities or a limited group of 'official' examination boards, hence they appear on the LoQEA. Individual schools don't issue the diplomas.

For you Duncan, seen an amendment come out today with regards recognised qualifications, received the email, and I think it is confirming what you have said previously in that the MEng has been added, which I believe is good news for you.

Quite a few additions.

I'm bringing this topic to the front again because since I'm scraping for points, I'm going to look everywhere for them.

Two of the questions on the application asks:
Does your partner have a recognised qualification ? (level 7, 8, 9 or 10)
Does your partner have a recognised qualification ? (level 3, 4, 5 or 6)

I put no to both since I am presuming they mean university level, but I then started to think university at a level 3? Is there any chance a level 3 would be considered a high school degree?

I've tried to research this with no luck. The institution of course is not found on NZQA since I only see higher level education institutions listed there such as universities. That might have answered my own question, but it's still worth asking here in case I could be wrong. Even a level 3 would give me something so I'm grasping at thin air here :)

Here are some links that will help you see what is meant by the different levels. http://www.nzqa.govt.nz/studying-in-new-zealand/nzqf/nzqf-levels

Thanks JandM. I called NZQA and they only evaluate tertiary degrees not high school degrees. They didn't know what immigration meant by levels 3-6. I am therefore presuming both questions refer to a higher degree than high school. I did see the link you had provided which was what made me think it just might count. Thank you for the help :)

As has been pointed out, High School Diplomas don't count. It's the equivalent to A Levels in the UK (or the baccaleaureateateteate(sp?!)) as it's the entry criteria for universities.

It is only qualifications achieved after high school that would come into the levels that will gain you extra points. But they don't have to be a bachelors degree or from a university. As Duncan74 says, there are some awarding bodies in the UK that are also eligible for these criteria.

If you're struggling for points and have some higher level qualifications that are in a subject that matches your experience and the skilled occupation you're claiming under, it may be worth getting an NZQA PAR done to see if it might bring you up a little. But don't hold your breath.
