our story so far ,
we decided at christmas that we were going to try to emmigrate to nz ,always talked about it for years and years ,so we got online filled in the EOI ,no problems ,got the ITA ,again no major problems ,medicals done in a hurry for the april deadline ,then the wait ...finally we get the e mail before we can have our telephone interview dave needs to have his provisional licence from electrical workers board ,we had already been in contact with them and had sent daves notarised qualificatons weeks before , so its just a case of waiting for there reply then interview time .

we finally hear from EWRB ,daves qualifications are fine ,but they need confirmation that he has done x amount of work ,with x amount of cables etc etc .

we have no way of getting this ,where he did his apprenticeship 20 years ago is no more ,where he has worked for the past 18 years as a service technician isnt what they need.

so we talked to the man explaining our prediciment ,dave said he still has log books ,so we copied these books [100's of pages] and sent them .

a few weeks later a letter arrives with an application for his provisional licence as a line mechanic ....whats a line mechanic ? dave isnt one ,wasn't sure if he could get the jobs he wanted with this license.

so back on the phone ,asks about this ,the licence is withdrawn ,great !!! now what can we do .

phone again thurs evening ,man is off ill .....

so we have sent lots of e mails ,have to talk to him monday now .

dave doesnt want to to go his present boss and ask him to write a letter ,as dave is planning to still work there for the next 5 months and really doesnt have the information that is needed.

so any of you kind folks have any ideas what else we can do ?

Oh dear Marie, what can i say to make things a little easier, unfortunately not a lot, except to say that Monday will be here soon enough.
Now as for Dave's employer well this is another thing. I know the man has to bring in the cash for the bills etc,but loyalty counts for nothing these days.

Do you think they would think about Dave if things were different? What i am trying to say is........if the company had to get rid of individuals for what ever reason and Dave was on that list,do you think they would leave Dave for another 5 months and get rid of another bod........ :? I only say this due to a Senior Ambulance Officer once telling me, after serving with the Ambulance Service for 15 years that loyalty these days count for nothing.........so i left. :nice1 in fact wished i'd done it sooner.

Think about it Marie. If Dave needs that letter, i say go for it and good luck for Monday. That registration will come

Hi Marie,

I can't contribute anything helpful I'm afraid, but I'd just like to say that I'm really sorry that you've encountered this problem. It must be really frustrating for you both!

Other than Dave's current (no pun intended!) Boss, is he a member of any UK professional body that can vouch for his experience? Can the NZ fella who organises the UK workshops at NZIS help at all? Can Dave sit the NZ test? Have you spoke to your case officer again, to see if she can offer any suggestions?

Sorry, can't help you but sincerely hope you can find a way out of this maze! (Other route might be the job offer route....there was another job in this week's Bay of Plenty Times that may suit Dave...but I spose he'd still need leccy registration?)

Good Luck :nice1

Hi Marie

Have you managed to sort it out yet. Talk to NZIS they might be able to advise you, they must have come up against this before. With so many of us applying nothing can be new to them.

Understand the thing about asking the boss, but if needs must.

Good ,luck and keep us posted.

hi everyone ,

Dave has a new talent ,he could be a detective ,he has found his supervisor from where he did his apprenticship 20 odd years ago
,he has agreed to write a letter for him for EWRB .

SOOOOOOOOOOOO we might have what the electrical board need and we may get his provisional licence .

will let you know !!!!
