Why is nothing ever simple???
Anyway my basic question is this (and sorry if it's been asked lots of times before):
How long does it take for NZIS to process an IRRV? If we were to walk into our closest branch (Hamilton) on the day we can apply for the IRRV would we be able to get one on the spot or would we need to wait?
Thanks :uhoh

In short not too long (the wait) and yes you can apply on the day you become eligible.

I tried to get them as a walk-in in Auckland, but the guy made me put the manilla envelope in which I'd stuck all the documentation in a drop-box at their office. Maybe Auckland sees such a huge volume that they won't do them in person there.
But I have to say we got them back in the mail quick smart, it took only two weeks, I think.

Got mine done in 1hr in Wellington, filled in the form and paid the money and had the sticker in passport when I left the office in Wakefield st. Very efficient service

Must have been a while ago now then as they have moved to Willis Street :)

I don't think they do anything same day service in ChCh anymore.
Well, the sign said they would transfer a sticker to your new passport on the same day.
And if you needed a visa for immediate travel, they could do it in the same day.
Everything else has to go into the manila envelope and the drop box.
Even if your CO is waiting on it--it has to go through the box which has a 24 hour turnaround before it gets to the CO.
Good luck!

I just did our IRRV's a month ago in Auckland (Henderson branch), just walked in with the forms, paid the bill and got the stickers right then and there. Took about 30 minutes.

And only took about 5 days from posting off application and passport to receiving stickered passport back from Sydney.

That's approximately the time it took me as well, in Auckland CBD. That was in December 07.

Thanks guys,
Spoke to immigration and their "official" processing time for the Hamilton branch curently stands at 10 days. She said they would do it on the day if we could prove urgent travel otherwise it was pot luck whether or not they'd be issued on the spot if we turned up in person (depended how busy they were).
