Hi
We have just been given one weeks notice to get get out of our rented house after we thought we had agreed a one months extension and desperately need a 3 / 4 house in North Wellington
Any ideas who we could ask as not a lot coming up on Trade me at the moment
Many thanks in advance

I'm afraid I can't help on the house front, but how comes you've only been given a week's notice? Was it a fixed-term tenancy?

Yes but as we have been struggling to find somewhere we asked for a months extension which it was indicated would be OK but now we have been told to leave at the end of next week !

Ring around the rental agents in Wellington such as Tommys etc. They usually have stuff on their books.

I think the weekend Dom Post has classified listings.
Good luck.

Well.. I don't know if this is relevant but a friend of mine had to change his rental contract and the new contract was extended by 1 year.
One week before his old contract was ending he received a letter from the landlord indication that he would have 1 week to find a new place.
He called the landlord and it seems that this kind of letter is sent automatically when the tenancy is about to end. The company didn't update its new contract details.
You should give them a call to see if this is the same case. Perhaps it is the same company?

What's a three quarter house?

Maybe a 3 to 4-bedroom house?
Sympathies. My son and his family had their rented home sold out from under them too, earlier this year, immediately after the landlords had told them they could have it for another year - turned out they (the landlords) decided to a) divorce, and b) change their minds about the house, cash in, and split the proceeds.

Sounds similar to us. Luckily we've found another house but have to take it weeks before the fixed term is up. We can't get follow on tennants for those few weeks so either risk turning down the new house we've found and then not finding a suitable one in a month or so (remembering it'll be the holidays) or pay for two houses for nearly two month....
...I did some calculations about the relative costs of renting and buying in the current market and came to some conclusions that I published on another thread.....but I think I need to change the costs and hassle factors of renting after this :(

Hope whatever you decide works out well.
