When I was searching for ALDI stores in NZ, I always came to the article in 2005 saying ALDI is looking for locations in NZ. But as I found out ALDI is still not present in NZ. So my question is, if someone knows if ALDI is coming.
I adore it, as it is one of my favourite stores with great model and unbelievable good quality. Any info will be more than great!

I have a funny feeling that you may have to start working on developing an appreciation for Pack 'n Save (aka Push 'n Shove) :D

I think you've summed up the totality of the facts. Aldi (Sud) have shops in Oz and have said they want to expand into NZ since 2001. So far they haven't.
In the UK Aldi occupies a rather unusual position. On the one hand it has a "pauper shop" image and on the other it actually offers some excellent deals on very specific items and also provides a cheap source of some mainland European goods. I'm not quite sure how this translates to Australia and NZ -- how cheaply can they ship in bratwurst and Medion PCs?

ALDI is always contracting producers from the country where it is - so around 90% of product sold in NZ would be made in NZ. As I was reading they made lots of contracts with Kiwis, but have no idea what is happening with it now.
I think competition in NZ market would be great - it is same as here in CH (we have 2 store chains Migros and COOP), since ALDI came prices went DOWN. And that is all we consumers want, no? :)

There was a lot of speculation some time back when they launched www.aldi.co.nz and it is indeed a live site relating only to Aussie, so we can but live in hope. :clap
Perhaps if we all e-mail them and enquire...:D

I though Aldi was a fab palace to shop, but I used to go there to buy the odd stuff, like fantastic German cake, things you couldn’t buy anywhere else in the UK.
I don’t really understand the local produce comment because I didn’t find much local stuff there in the UK.
Pack n save is a great shop for local produce, much better than any other NZ shop. Recently I’m rather paranoid about country of origin when it comes to food, I remember the BSE horror in the UK, perhaps it comes from there.
Anyway I have a few rules:
Nothing from the USA, the proliferation of genetic engineering there is not something I choose not to buy, safe probably, confinable or predictable, no.
Nothing from China, heavy industry and food production are a bad mix in my opinion.
No kiwi fruit from Spain (just because it tasted bad)
I believe NZ is blessed when it comes to growing great food, I always check and I know Pack n Save has the biggest range of NZ food.
For example
At the moment Pack n Save have a fantastic horde of NZ Navel Oranges, try them they are simply the very best oranges in the world. Don’t confuse them with the American version in new world!
The NZ version are big ugly giants with a deep navel, the 2nd internal orange is about ¼ the size the main orange. They are seedless (sterile, grown from grafting as they have been since their mutation) and are the sweetest firmest best orange you can buy.
If you know where to look NZ is a foodie heaven, and the odd thing is the best is found in the cheapest shops, and with things like fish, the guy in a ute at the side of the road.

I was always thought Aldi was a really rubbish shop- worse than Asda but then I discovered it in Oz. Now I miss all those wonderful things like pear chocolate and European cakes etc- you can get some of those things here but for heaps more money.

I'd be happy with just fruit flies, Pak n Save has a much wider variety of wildlife among the displays. :exit

for those that like Lidl and have babies i noticed that Nappies4less sell the torjour(used to be Cien) nappies. They were the best fit for my skinny daughter that i could find in the UK.
