I was delighted to confirm with Singapore Air that we would each be allowed 40k checked luggage allowance providing we have a nice new Residence Visa in our passports - Yay.... more shopping!!!:clap

Hi Pam
OH and I had been wondering about that as SAL is a possibility for us in the future, so that is good news. I wonder if they will let us have the increased luggage on our internal flight and with a stopover...which we are currently considering.
We thought we really should give the boys a couple of days in London before flying out and would like a few days in Singapore if we can do it.

We have also had confirmation from Singapore Airlines of 40kg each:nice1

From what other people have said, be certain to have printouts of emails or original letters, as appropriate, with you to show when you arrive at checkin.

*nods* Do have it in writing as the check in staff are not necessarily on the same page with this one!

agree, ensure that you have written confirmation to show them. we missed our flight because it took ages to get the right luggage allowance sorted and they (not SAL) just kept saying but its not what it says on our system!

I concur...have had a problem with this one, but fortunately ended well
Check in staff in London are not employed by Singapore Airlines but by a contracting company, which seems to be where the problem lies most of the time.

Right, I can now confirm that Singapore Air were totally on the ball. Seemed to know the regulations without me producing my paperwork.
So me and my three pieces of checked-in luggage totalling nearly 40kg, my hand luggage weighing in at about 11kg, handbag, and two bottles of duty free arrived safely in Christchurch.
Spend the weekend enjoing the sunshine, and today will be spent doing the agencies routine.
Good luck to the other new arrivals.

If you are having a stopover in Singapore you need to let SIA have a copy of your visas so that they can confirm with SIA in Changi Airport and you won't have any problems.

we're also booked with SAL so this good to know :) did you find out about this over the phone? can't see any mention of it on their website... i'm wondering if only the missus can take advantage of it (since she's the one on the visa). hmm.
good to hear the trip went smoothly!

Good Luck with the agencies this week. Hope to be following in your footsteps in the not too distant future!

nifta we were in a similar situation and DP wasn't entitled to any extra luggage allowance, but if you have any children included on you misses' PR they should be entitled also.
Some airlines are nice and allow you to have Xkgs over anyway.

Nifta, That is the way that I would read it too. It does specify that the Residence Visa must be nice and clean and first time use only. So it seems to infer that it would only be the visa holder, not fellow travellers.

20kg for me when I flew over with Royal Brunei! Half of that was taken up with photography equipment, I hardly had room for my socks.
