Tax relief on childcare costs?

I think I've managed to get a nursery place for DD so am planning on returning to work in the New Year. Can anyone tell me if there is any tax relief on the costs? It's going to be about $140 for two days a week which is quite a chunk of money.

There is some tax relief but not much...I haven't claimed it yet as with my daughter in childcare 5 days it was going to be about $300 for the year and I haven't time to do it.

$140 for two days seems high to me...but maybe that is Auckland. How old is your child? If 3 or older you get 20 free hours. My daughter goes to a preschool 3 days a week booked in 8-5:30 and I pay $47.50 a day. If I booked her in for 4 days I think I would actually pay less or about the same because of the pricing structure. But then I have a nanny for the other 2 days...anyway, good luck!

For the 20 hours free I think you can only claim 6 hours per day....and a lot of places ask for top up 'donations' as they can't charge 'top up fees'.
