Well we are just starting out on the process of looking at the possibility of getting out of the Uk!

We have never even been to NZ, but after talking to several people (and watching (Billy connollys world tour!) We have decided we need to look into it.

We are planning to come over and have a look around for 3 weeks in Dec/Jan to see what we think. If nothing else we will have had a mega holiday (mega expensive too!) everyone says we will love it and definately want to come out to live.

I told my hubby that I didn't want to start form filling etc till we had been but what do you lot think?

My other big question is how difficult it is to find work and should you try and get a job offer first before applying or what?

Kev my husband is currently self employed, he is a mowing contractor for yorkshire water cutting reservoirs etc, in the winter he does fabricating, stock cars, railings, gates etc. He can do just about anything with his hands, but it's all come from experience, he doesn't actually have any certificates to prove what he can do - does experience count for anything or would he be better trying to do a block course and getting a welding certificate before we apply? The only qualification he got after school was his HGV licence.

I don't actually 'work', I stay at home and look after our youngest son who is 15 months old, (we have two boys at school aged 7 and 9) I do all kevs books, vat returns etc. I have got other qualifications since school, a btec national diploma in business studies and a couple of extra 'O' and 'A' levels. I worked as a credit controller for about 7 years and then ran my own business as a milk lady before our first son was born. I help in school on a voluntary basis, as a classroom support assistant, (I have also done this as cover for someone who was on a course at the request of the head.) I am also a governor at both the infant and junior schools my boys go to.

I would love to read your views about what we should do,
Apply now or wait till we have been for a visit?
Try and find work before applying?
Get some certificates for welding etc now before we apply?
Any advice would be great, I feel as if i jumped into a swamp and i can't even decide which way to go to try and find the way out!

Cant really give you any advice as such, cause were in almost the same position as you! :P

Weve got flights booked for 18th Dec for a 3 week tour! So excited, hey, i might see you there! We could meet up for a drink and exchange notes!

We thought before we make any rash decisions, we'd better go and take a look, but our minds are pretty well made up :P

Good luck with everything, this forum is great for everything you need to know. Im off to watch Billy Conolley again :nice1

Hi and welcome to the forum.

My hubby, kids and I went for a 3 week reccy last year and we fell in love with the place. We looked into the emigration process when we got back home but, like yourselves had lots of experience but no degrees or mega qualifications. We checked the points situation at that time and no way come anywhere close so we thought it was an impossibility for us.

Anyway..... to cut a long story short my hubby has his HGV license and NZ are crying out for them. After being put in touch with a really good contact from lovely Kim39 on this forum my hubby has a job offer and we are just waiting for the house to sell and we'll be off quick as a shot!

Everyone on this forum is really helpful and you can get lots of info and advice from here but you do need to do lots of research yourself and be sure that it is something you really want to do.

It's very exciting and stressful as hell - but like lots of folk on here it's our dream and we can't wait to get over there and get started.

Good luck to you - you'll have a fabulous holiday and whether or not you decide it's the place you want to live, you'll never regret spending all that dosh on the visit. :yes
