Hi,

just browsing through Destination NZ and came across an advert for something called Kiwi-Ora, a NZQA approved settlement programme for new migrants. The ad claims it is free, but being the cynic I am, I think there must be a catch somewhere.

Has anyone had any experience of this?

Just had a good look at the site......never seen it before!!!

I get the feeling it is aimed more at non-English speaking migrants but not entirely convinced of that.
And I cant find anywhere that talks about a cost!!!
:clap

I had a Bulgarian friend that did this course , and she found it very helpful,
but I think as Carol said it is probably aimed at non english speaking migrants.

Carol. The very first para. in fact says it is offered to you free of charge.
This may, of course, not be the full story.

Maybe I'm just getting synical in my old age but you so rarely get anything for nothing these days.......I thought there was bound to be a hidden cost somewhere .
Cant find it though.

Maybe it is a government funded thing through the Uni aimed at bringing non-English speaking immigrants up to speed.

dunno really - looks good for them though!

Hi All,

Met the guy and his wife at the York Emigrate show :nice1 it is free (completly!) :nice1 :clap and is aimed at ALL migrants. Some very useful stuff but you have to have residency and/or be a NZ Citizen to register :? I think a pre residency pack would be a good idea with lots of useful info on setting up bank accounts etc... before you arrive! :laugh ;)

We were in fact given a pre- residency pack by the agent that we originally used. It was quite a comprehensive booklet, with stacks of usefull info. But, i doubt there was anything in it that you could not glean from this or other forums similar ilk.
I will try and dig it out from the mountain of gumph we have aquired.

I thought I'd bring this back to the top again as we did enroll on this programme, and have had our pack for a couple of weeks.
The pack is pretty substantial and although the course work didn't tell us much we hadn't already found out either from the forum or from personal experience it's worth joining for all the books they send you.
You get an Atlas (another one to go with the one NZIS send in the welcome pack)
A copy of the latest road code
Batemans book of NZ facts
Job Winning in New Zealand (penguin book)
The Alladin Factor (self improvement book)
Batemans Contemporary Atlas of NZ (hard back)
Study packs on buying a car, buying a house, renting a house, employment
A write your own NZ CV book
2 videos (only watched one so far and it is a bit cheesey)
A CD
A pack-a-mac????
A mock leather note book
and a stone in a wood & plastic case?????

You get a work book, with all the answers word for word in quick reference guide.

All in all, worthwhile joining up for all the free books you get.

Just off to have a look, you just reminded me! Been meaning to join up for a nosey!

We got our NZIS welcome pack, which I sent off for just to get the Atlas (I like free stuff), and we did not get it! Just a CD rom and a NZIS folder which is basically all the leaflets have have been sent with EOI & ITA put together, in one ring binder.
