Hi,
I’m going through the EOI forms and in the skilled section (after picking the job, plus sub-type (IT)), I’m at rather a sticky wicket, namely on one hand it says the skills are in demand (Computer Consultancy) but then goes on to ask me why I feel my skills are useful.
I’m planning on the ole CV “cut and paste” routine, is this the best bet or di other folks use a different set of words?
Cheers,
Neil
Hi, Neil! If it's the section I'm thinking of -- where they give you a fair bit of blank space to fill in your reasons -- it might be best just to write a short summary such as the one my wife gave NZIS and quoted* in this thread:
http://www.emigratenz.org/forums/viewtopic.php?t=1472
My only reasoning here is that other folks on the thread seemed to go for brevity, and most (all?) of us got PR. But it's just a suggestion: maybe you're even talking about another section. The one we were discussing is the general, job-by-job work experience section. I have an idea, on re-reading your post, that you are discussing something else... even so, the approach we tried might be worth considering in the sense of brevity and/or in the sense of it being a specially-crafted and reasoned paragraph rather than just copied-and-pasted text. E.g., could be that they want to know why your skills will be useful to NZ whereas your CV might not be fashioned specifically to answer this.
*=albeit re. a slightly different industry from yours! :laugh

You beat me to it Matt,
How are you ? Well I hope. :yes
John
Thanks for asking, John, yes. You? It's been a busy week -- our house went on the market and that has all taken a lot of time this week -- so sorry not to have been attending to forum matters quite as much (blessed relief for everybody, probably :cheers ).

Hi
Finished my EOI about 6 weeks ago (still waiting patiently for the good news :? ) but as I remember you can type all you want in the EOI explanation text field but when you save it the text gets truncated, it caught me out in one bit! You may not get to that depth but just ensure you proof read it before submitting it just in case.
Best of luck anyway

If it's the bit after you detail your job, we just put in that it was relevant to each job and to our qualifications very brief.
But this might be the wrong area as it was more work experience.
Good luck.

Just got the EOI off the immigration site to make a start on, i think its going to be tricky, so many questions i have already and i've only scanned through it!!
does everybody muddle there way through with help from the forum or do they get some organisation to look at it first? I don't want to make any mistakes that could jepadise our chances, helen would never forgive me!!
any advice anyone?
cheers
Paul.

Hi Paul & Helen,
I know the feeling, I’ve just finished the form (only to find they don’t take switch) and about to put some money into a Visa account.
I had a few questions around context and qualifications but muddled through.
My wife and I now have a score of 150 with I reckon is around 30 too high to I’m double and treble checking before I send later today.
If you have any specifics post away and I’ll try (or I’m sure someone better qualified will) try to answer.
Good luck.
Neil

Well I surrender. Quick points check shows we have 120 points. Doing EOI online originally gave us 70 points and then when I amended some family details, defaulted at 10 points. I've validated each page but can't get it to change. Husband's job is on shortage list and he has a degree and City & Guilds.
I know AOL can cause problems sometimes, anyone else had this happen or have I done something obviously wrong?
