How long does it take to get a tax number and ss number?



Do you have to apply yourself or is it done though your employer?

From memory I think it took a couple of week for the IRD number (tax) and there is no SS no.

The IRD no. doesn't take that long - you apply yourself. There's no Social Security - You pay 1% ACC off your wages that's it

We got IRD numbers before we left, it made setting up bank accounts and jobs so much easier, you can do it online, if you search for ird numbers on the forum, you'll find a thread with the link
