Hi Folks

Since Im still waiting for the NZQA to assess my Many IT trade qualifications, my mind has been put to other matters...

Supposing they dont assess them as good enough to give me the 50 points I need, what are the other options.

I have an HND in an are not directly related to my work Experience.
(Is that ok, and does an HND count as a recognised basic qualification.)

I do have 10 years work experience in my chosen line of work areas which are on the Immediate Skills Shortage Listand the Long Term Skills Shortage List.
(That must count for something)

That aside if I need to pick up another qualification what are the easiest to pick up in a short space of time - i.e. I dont have 5 years to complete a BSc in Computer Science!

What have others got in with previously?

Thanks
T&D

I replied to your last thread, it's unlikely you'll get points for your mcse. I tried and failed.

The NZIS will only give points for quals gained through fulltime study of over 2 years.

They will give points for part time study if it has been completed as part of an apprenticeship.

I got my BTEC ONC assessed at level 4 by NZQA and accepted by NZIS as worth 50 points with evidence of my apprenticeship (not easy as it was 20 years ago)

Hi guys, adam did you get your qualifications assesed for your EOI or did you wait for your ITA?
I am going to be in the same boat i think, i have a BTEC ONC and an apprenticeship i did nearly twenty years ago. How did you manage to prove it? cheers
Paul.

I had a preliminary assessment done for the EOI but got a full one done for the ITA, the benefit of the full assessment is they will assess more than one qualification for the single fee.

Regarding proof of my apprenticeship, during the apprenticeship we had to keep a diary detailing what we had done, and this was signed off by the manager of each team we worked with. Luckily I'd kept these and submitted them as evidence along with the evidence that I'd attended training courses and evidence of block release to gain the ONC (I'd kept these too).

I'd always told my wife being a hoarder would come in useful one day :laugh

To follow up foolsgold99,
I don't know the details about IT quals where there can be shades of grey...but;
If NZQA assess your qualifications as being comparable to those in NZ, NZIS will allocate you the relevant points. It is NZQA who decide whether your quals are worth anything, not NZIS (although NZIS do have a recognised list of UK universities for standard degrees like Bsc, Msc, BA etc).
For assessment, NZQA requre the qualification to take a minimum of 12 months full-time study, although from my experience, this is flexible. My PGCE from the OU took 6 months-but NZQA took past teaching experience (private schools) into account.
