Hi all..
Still finding my way around the forum - but after two days I think I'm almost addicted!! aaaargh!!
:laugh

Just had a quick look at the "old" forum and saw a topic on there about changes to citizenship.

We have been here for 8 years - arrived on Permanent residency.
We have put off applying for citizenship - just because we keep saving up the money and then something else steals it away eg new washing machine/tumble drier/laptop/shoes for the whole family etc etc etc etc

anyway...
just wondering - are we going to miss out if we dont do it soon?
Anyone know anything?

Hi Carol. I would imagine that after 8 years residency you could apply for citizenship any time you felt like it. You surely must qualify by now.

apparently come January '05 its going from 3 years to 5 years residency but you're over that anyway so it shouldn't affect you.

That's what I thought Timbo - but we have sort of lapsed into....."we'll do it next month" mentality.

I know we will have to swear "to honour the Queen"

makes me laugh!
:laugh :laugh :laugh

Hi Carol,
I dont think you will have to swear to honour the Queen. I didnt, when you think about it you are already a subject of the Queen, my husband who is not English had to swear allegiance. Its pretty cool because you dont loose your old nationality, just gain a new one as well.
