Does anyone have any experience of sending work tools to NZ.

My husband is a diesel mechanic so has 20yrs worth of tools plus toolbox to take. There will probably be a gap of about 2wks from him finishing work here and arriving in NZ.

Can anyone recommend firms that maybe specialise in this area?

Thanks
Joanne

My hubby is a carpenter and bought the essentials on the plane with us, but most of his tools have been cleaned and shipped. Shipping not arrived yet so don't know if we will get any hassle when they arrive?

I am a Plumber (and proud to announce it to the world) and did intend to sort through my tools giving away the cruddy ones and taking the good tools with me, untill I spoke to NZ customs the man on the other end of the line told me that as my tools were to support my work I would need to show there value, either reciepts or have them assesed for value. I would then ned to pay import tax and GST on the assesed value. He made the whole thing sound do complicated I have decided to leave all my tools here, and treat myself to a shiny new tool kit!

If any body has found an easy way to get tools in with you I would love to know as I am quite fond of some tools in my tool box, and am quite sure I could not replace them in NZ.

Surely if you insist that the tools are for home DIY use, they cant prove otherwise, and therefore cant charge duty.
Thats how I see it anyhow.

I will hopefully be traveling on a work visa, which ( i would think) would give them access to my employers details and my personal info?

I did consider just taking a few of my very favourite tools. Wrapped up in my wifes clothes!! :laugh

Hi All,

Joanne I have sent you a PM. Kims right it was expensive! (£900 for air freight :eek :eek :eek) and I don't mind if you PM me ! :nice1
I didn't know about having to pay duty on them though :eek :no :no :no every removals firm that has been and given us a quote has never mentioned having to pay tax and/or GST! This is just another spanner ('scuse the pun!!! :laugh :laugh :laugh ) in the works! I will have a tool box of my own after this week, after all the spanners that have been thrown in the works! :laugh :laugh :laugh
Kim, I will send you the photo's tonight if the kids give me any peace! :hopeso I havn't forgot!
