Hi All,

I would like to openly thank everyone who have shared their thoughts in this forum. There is really a wealth of information here for anyone curious about moving to NZ.

Here is my situation...

I have been consulting a local emigration agent for assistance in processing my application for a skilled migrants visa. The agent told me that even if I have more that five years of I.T. experience from different companies was that NZIS only recognized your years of experience if you have stayed in the same company for at least 3 years. Is this true?

I haven't been so lucky as to getting an interview or job offer. I was told by some recruiters that they prefer people who are already in NZ or have the necessary permit to work there.

I am planning to go there and find work once I get my skilled migrants visa.

Hope someone can share his/her thoughts...

Hi there,

re: experience....

This certainly isn't true in our case. Frodo, who's in IT, actually has about 10 years experience, but as it was so hard to proove the first 2-3 years (moved around a lot) we only claimed for 8 years. We did get a print out from the IR, but that was really complicated and we didn't think that would be enough. He's spent the last 7 years 10 months working for the same company.

Anyhoo, when we received our ITA we noticed that they'd boosted our points to 125, to include the full 10 years! We didn't actually need the extra points, but it was nice to have! :yes

I can also confirm that this is not true. I claimed 10 years work exp in IT. I have never stayed in the same place longer than 2 years.

I would seriously consider if an agent how seems to know so little is worth paying money to.
