Hi All,

It has been a while since I posted messages in this forum. Anyway, just wish to inform the regular forummers that I was granted the WTR visas today from NZIS bangkok office. It would be better to get PR outright but at least this is a consolation. I think this is a policy from this part of the world, ie, they do not offer PR outright unless you have a job offer. They mentioned that this visa can be converted to PR once we receive a job offer and hopefully during my trip to Palmerston North this Sunday, someone will offer me a job. Just joking.

It had been really a roller coaster ride all these 8 months due to my medical conditions (diabetes and gout) and wish to thank forummers like Shagen, Jesselyn, Beah, Jin kee, Moorf, Dave and Sandra, Diny, Andy and Barbette and many others for all the help and encouragement.

Just need some clarification though and I know the answers is somewhere in the forum but I am not able to find them. I need to know, if once I was offered a job, do I need to re-apply again for PR, that is, do we need to do the medical and police checks again or is it an automatic conversion. Second, as for my son's education (it is mentioned that he willbe given a student visa), will he be considered as a PR or a foreign student.

Thanks in advance.

Vincent Ong

Congratulations on this outcome, Vincent! It's always nice to start my morning reading on the forum about someone achieving a visa.

While this is a slightly less direct way to PR than being granted upfront visas, my family -- for what it is worth -- thought for a long time that 2-yr WTR was what we would be granted and we would have been very pleased with it. After all, less than a year ago we'd hardly have had a shot at either 2-yr WTR or upfront PR. So, very many of our projected NZ scenarios and conversations were based on being granted 2-yr WTR and we think it is a pretty fair and solid option.

Well done again.
Keep us posted!

Great news, have a bunch of these :raebanana :raebanana :raebanana :raebanana :raebanana

WIth regard to your question, I think if you stay in your job for 3 months, you just have to apply for PR and get it without any additional medical or forms etc. (I bet you have to pay some more though!)

all the best

cheers

If you come in on a WTR visa you can apply for PR as soon as you`ve got enough points .

If you`re police checks & medicals have run out (6 months & 3 months, I think) then you will have to have new ones done.

We came on a WTR visa and our checks had elapsed by only a couple of weeks but they still made us have new ones for PR.

Congratulations :clap :cheers :clap

From what we know, you need to hold a full-time job or a contract job exceeding 12 months that matches your qualifications and skill for a minimum of 3 months. After that you may apply to convert your WTR to PR (I think there are charges involved). You need not re-do your medicals and police checks.

As for your son, once your WTR is approved he can apply for a student visa. He will not be subjected to foreign student fees.

Hope the above helps and I am sure you will make it to PR in the very, very near future.

Good luck and best wishes. :exit

Congratulations Vincent! :raebanana :raebanana

Although it's not a PR, it's still a 'passport' to NZ. What fees would you pay since your migrant levy is deferred until your PR is granted?

Thanks for sharing your experience,
Jinkee

Congratulations Vincent! Nice job!

Before I forget, let me thank you for giving me some tips on the interview proceedings. It really helped me a lot because I was able to prepare my answers even before I step inside the office of my visa officer.

Like Cathy, I'm also waiting for the result of my interview, probably by first week of June. Hope I get a PR/WTR too. When were all in NZ, maybe we can meet up. With all the news going in NZ, we need a support group to get through the day.

Thanks again Vincent.

Daer all,

I have been busy visiting the North Island. Have been to Auckland, Palmerston North and Wellington all in a space of 6 days. Have also been going for job interviews, visiting schools, meet up with old friends and make new friends in Palmerston North.

We just got news from NZIS today that they decided to upgrade our WTR to PR outright. Hooray. What a great news especially when I am now in a beautiful city in Palmerston North. Just cannot wait till I make the actual move in Oct 2005.

Time to celebrate and all forumers please give me some dancing bananas.
