Hello all

Just wondered if anyone went ahead and had medicals and police checks done before invatation to apply, not sure if they would be valid if had done or what time scale they have,

This is all exciting and makes you nervey as well, any advise would be welcome, from reading the posts it seems to take time anyway?

keep up all the good work you People in here it makes great reading and sometimes I feel like I can't shut down and do other things than read all your posts.

Many Thanks :nice1

Hello Pamela,

Police checks are valid for 6 months, and can take up to 2 months (40 working days is the maximum NIS can take). We've had ours three weeks and were selected on the 15th of this month, so hopefully they'll see us through the process.

Med certs, only being valid 3 months, we're hanging on for. We figure we can get them done once invited to apply, and since you get a case officer assigned, they would be the ones best placed to help you get your timing right. Well, that's the plan anyway! :uhoh

Good luck mate :nice1

Hi

We were selected in August and as yet haven't been sent our invitation to apply.

I have already sent off for our police checks and we are waiting to do the medicals until the invitation comes through.

Hope this helps

Tara

Police checks yes they are only £10 and last 6 months.

Medicals NO! Not until you get your ITA! Things will take some time get process and you don't wan't to run the risk of them running out!

It all depends on the time scale you guys are working to. We had our medicals done a couple of weeks after being selected, on August 16th ( wait for price :eek ) .
If you are in a rush and you are currently having treatment for ANYTHING or take on going medication they want to know , and this could hold up your application ,so you can get discharge letters from your GP, or ask them to write a covering letter.
That's what we have done ,and lets hope that the case officer finds all to be ok :hopeso
Regards to all.

Hi there,

Similar to above, we were selected out on August 4 and haven't yet been sent an ITA.

We have had the police checks and despite me listing every address I'd lived at in the UK including all student ones, it only took about 5 weeks to get them back.

We're getting our medicals done over the next fortnight (it's worked out that we have separate appointments for bloods and x-ray, and then the actual medical 2 weeks later) so in that time we're hoping that our application moves forward.

Yes it's a risk, but I'd like to think that NZIS might manage to send us an ITA by the beginning of January!!! I rang the help number given in other posts on this site and they said we might get the ITA around 10-12 weeks after being selected (ie, by the end of October).

And inspired by the antics of Moorf et al we are already thinking of booking flights and going anyway early Feb, no matter what. Did you know that most cheap flights to NZ are already booked up until April, according to Travelbag?

Watch this space!!

Don't want to sound like a 'know it all' but I'm pretty sure that medical reports are valid for 6 months. They need to be done by a NZIS panel doctor and in some cases - you'll need to take out a 2nd mortgage to pay for them.

We had ours done in Birmingham - a clinic very close to the M5 motorway. From reading about the costs that some folks have had to pay, ours were very reasonable. 1 x adult medical test, 2 x child medical tests, 1 x chest x-ray and 1 x blood test. Total price 195.00.

Even if Birmingham isn't on your doorstep maybe it's a good idea to have a day off work and drive there - you could save yourself a fair bit of dosh. Anybody wanting to know the details of the doctor please PM me.

I would book your medicals you can always change the date, we had a month wait frustrating when our ITA had a already come through.

Get police certs done ASAP they last 6 months, medicals last 3 months.

As Diny said shop around you may be able to save a bit, you can get the list off the immi web site.

Hi Karl

You say what the cost is on these - do you just go to your local police station for them? Or is there a special procedure to be followed?

Thanks

Abbie

Forms will be sent to you on request from your local metropolitan police headquarters.

Tell themit's for migration purposes...it's fairly popular request.
