Hi Guys,

Since the job offer I got through a couple of weeks ago, needless to say I have accepted and start on the 22nd August - gives me time to finish committments at work, have time to pack up and get sorted and most importantly spend time with my family.

My questions relate to the whole 'moving' process. Even though I am moving to Auckland to be with my Kiwi partner, he will still be living in the Mount a couple of hours away, and I will be boarding in the city during the week. I actually see this as a good thing initially - it'll allow me to settle in and make my own way. We'll see what happens in the future.

However, this of course means I'll need to set up some sort of base for myself in Auckland. So what do I bring and what do I leave behind? I've already dismissed big household items such as beds, sofas etc, mainly because the cost of shipping them really doesn't justify their value! The items I was more thinking about was bedding, towels, crockery, saucepans etc etc etc. As the company I will be working for is contributing $5k towards relocation costs it seems silly to leave this stuff behind - not alot for second hand sale but expensive to buy. What do people think?

Also, whats the deal with electronic stuff - does it work in NZ.....DVD players, stereos, TVs?

I suspect that when all put together, I'll have some serious possessions!!

Hey Wiggy, it would help if you put some info on your profile so we can see where you are from. If from the US then not all electrics will work but if from the UK then Yep they will, its an expensive business setting up so if its yours and you like it bring it. Especially the electrical stuff. Personally I would also bring any furniture that I liked as its expensive to replace a lot of stuff at once.

I agree, bring as much as you can and want to. It is expensive to set yourself up again from scratch, its also nice to have your own stuff around you.
