HAVE ARRIVED!!!!
YAY!
I went to meet them at the airport this morning.
Not the best day for them to arrive - wet and misty in Welly today but...nevertheless they are here safe and sound....all intact - tired, looking forward to a shower, and happy to be here at last I think.
Welcome to Aotearoa guys!
See you soon

Some other REALLY little things that happened to me today...but hit home to me what a wonderful place Jennie and Rob have come to..........
I went to buy petrol in the Shell Service Station in Johnsonville.
I was met at the pump by an attendant who gave me a big smile and said "Can I see to that for you?" and filled my car with petrol.
The guy who served me (really young!) was just So friendly and helpful - more so than usual. I love it when they say "thank you ma'am" when you pay them! He tried to sell me a couple of Whittakers Peanut slabs and we laughed about me trying not to be lead astray....
Popped into a Burgerking for a quick bite to eat.
One of the assistants gave my son a free caramel sundae.....and me a free coffee!!!!!
Kenny and I went to look at tiles for the bathroom and toilet......
The man in the shop GAVE us about ten different ones to take away and try on the wall....."to check the colour is right" he said......
We called in at a big DIY place on the way home - Bunnings.
On the way in - a group of teenagers were outside cooking a sausage sizzle to raise funds for their Stage Challenge competition. We got talking - turned out one of them is in the same class as my oldest son....they were just SO lovely - polite........trendy but smart.
Went to Briscoes for some wine glasses - everything 50% off so I got some new plates too!
The on the checkout wrapped everything so carefully - and then actually apologised because she had taken so long!
Called in at the Post Shop in Tawa on the way home to post a present - I dont go in often but the lady made a point of asking how I was and saying she hadn't seen me for a while...
Just simple simple things that make such a difference dont they?
Jennie and Rob.....you're going to love it here!

Carol,
tell them they're missing nothing here in Swindon - very wet and a chilly-feeling 9 degC here today. Roll on summer !
Jennie & Rob,
best of luck, we'll miss you tomorrow at the meet!

This is one thing I love about NZ.....
went to get some petrol last cold and very wet Thursday morning, and just I was getting out of the car the chap from the petrol station came running out and said "I'll do that for you, why dont you go and get into the warm"!!!!! Never happened to me in England :nice1

One of the guys I work with moans that the service at petrol stations is going downhill. His gripe is that they don't have enough people working there nowadays to guarantee filling up ALL the cars AND wash the windscreens at the same time.
It seems very odd at first, coming from 'serve yourself' UK, but you soon get used to leaving the guy/gal with the keys and going inside in the warm to pay. When I got here I felt as if I should be offering some sort of tip for the service. :laugh

When I first came over, I used to feel terribly guilty at the supermarket watching them pack my bag. I felt like a bit of a spare part. I was telling my boss who has never been to England. He was telling a story about his one and only trip to pak'n save, and how they didnt pack his bag for him. I explained that in England you stand down the bottom of the cashier and grab your shopping as she chucks it at you. :laugh

Is it me or do they look at you funny if fill your own car up? they look offended and hurt that they cant do it for you. or is that just me. I also like this thing that if the price of oil is high then gas goes high and if the price is low, fuel goes low. what a fantastic idea, I wonder if that could work in the UK.

Have just been to see Jennie and Rob in their apartment in Wellington.
They have been out for the day on the train up to Plimmerton.
Rob said they walked for hours....they are hiring a car tomorrow to have a look around before Rob starts work on Monday.
It is our school's 150th birthday celebrations at the weekend - and they have said they would like to come and see what is going on.
So they are getting the train to Tawa and I'm picking them up to take them to school.
Katie and Chloe got on like two little clones!
:laugh :laugh :laugh :laugh
