A relation of mine works in sales for Sky in the UK. According to her Sky is only available to people who live in the USA, UK and Italy. She is convinced that it is illegal to get Sky anywhere else in the world.

Is this correct?

Are there other sattelite TV companies in NZ or is she just havering?

I live in the US, and have traveled all over. I have never heard of Sky in the US.

Sky in NZ isnt the same as ours - sorry if that upsets anyone (mostly the blokes i guess).

They do get sky sports and movies but they are different to ours (a bit like getting cable - not quite the same choice).

In addition to this there doesnt seem to be much of a watershed where programmes and film times are concerend.

One news presenter asked the polititian "..Whos the Sh1t stirrer in all this..?"

I'll be getting Sky after we move into the new house. I checked and there is already a dish up, all we need is a decoder box :nice1

Alijax you're right there doesn't seem to be any kind of censoring! On the radio in the mornings there's a whole heap of swearing! I used to listen to Kiss FM (which I considered to be at the slack end of the censorship) in the UK & they cut people off if they swore but noone seems to care here!

You're not wrong there Baboonworld - its certainly not like Sky in Europe! We've got Sky & I must say apart from the Rugby channel, Sky Sports & the News channels - there aint a whole heap on! We cancelled the movie channels as the movies on TV2 & 3 are on the whole better but that's personal preference.

i have to admit sky in NZ is nothing like the UK version.
you could try "streaming" your programs through your pc but sky don't like it. this is where tv from other countries is sent back via broadband.
i watch lots of live footie games here that are streamed back fom asia etc.its fairly complicated to set up though.

Great idea, certainly worth a try. Any suggestions as to where I could get some instructions on how to set about this?

I already do a similar thing with radio, but this is very straightforward with the way the BBC has sets up its on-line broadcasting.

you'll find everything you need to know where.

http://www.broadcast-live.com/

it's very bandwidth dependent, i used it to watch some of the french open tennis, and it was a bit ropey on my rubbish basic xtra jetstream adsl

IME the movies on the public channels are only watcheable when recorded on VCR... the nr. of commercials is just staggering. I can understand why though... with only 4 million people to watch tops, there's not so much financial gain per second of commercial, so it must be pretty cheap to buy commercial time. The network needs a lot of commercial time to cover the costs when they don't get paid much per second. But it's a drag to watch nevertheless... I don't need to go to the toilet THAT much! :laugh

Yeah - tried to watch 8-Mile last night on normal telly & there was more commercial time than film-time I reckon!!! Every time we just got into the movie some idiot with Starburst juicy sweets would pop up on the screen!!! :laugh :laugh :laugh
