If one has been granted PR, does the status change in the NZIS website?

No, once your application goes physically into the system and is accepted it is dealt with internally.
The NZIS line is that you don't want people to know your staus is changed and I guess they are too busy to go back to another system to update it when you already have the answer in your passport.
