Well, we're into yet another extension.. until Monday 5pm...
I can't even begin to tell you guys how stressful this is... horrid weekend coming up... waiting, waiting.
It really looks doubtful too now, as the onus is on the vendors to spend a few thousand getting their land surveyed and easement certs issued (which will take months to get sorted too apparently) so I've pretty much let the house go in my mind and will start looking at property again on Saturday.
Of course, the other thing being that our rental has to be renewed end March .... :( :( :( :(

Hang in there, don't let this house situation drive you nuts. It just isn't worth it!
Mel and I have bought and sold probably 15 houses in the last 5 years, and had many deals fall through- if this one doesn't work out, there will be another house. It may not feel that way now, but trust me, there is ALWAYS another house. If the deal doesn't feel right, let it go. Being stuck with a property you may not be able to sell doesn't make sense.
Nothing is not worth losing your sanity or giving up precious moments of your life over- despite the frustration and disappointment you might be feeling over this particular home. You will get through this one, and you have the support of the whole forum. Thanks for sharing your words of advice for those of us who have yet to enter into the NZ home buying frenzy.
Best,
Wendy

Having been in a similar situation ourselves (but not in NZ) I can feel for you. I know what I'm like, if I see a place I like I want to move in.
But I'm a great believer in 'what is meant to be'. If everything goes belly-up with this house - there'll be another - which may just 'crank your chain' that little bit more ..... and it's waiting for your name to be put on the deeds.
Good luck and try to have a good weekend (although it's easy for me to say).

Poor you - ah well, as everybody else has said, maybe there's a better house around the corner. No point in buying into a lot of problems down the line. There has to be a house with your name on it somewhere. :yes
What a time to give up the fags eh

Everything happens for a reason and I honestly believe you will look back and thank god it didn't work out - when you are settled in your dream house. It will turn out to be a blessing in disguise 'cos now you are going to find an even better house which you wouldn't have looked at otherwise!

With houses I think you have to adopt the 'if its meant to be it will be' approach, you've done all you can so try and sit back and see what happens next. If you are meant to have it it will all fall in place.
I seem to recall you saying that it was on the market before and had just come back on, maybe this has happened before with other people and that property.

Hey moorf
you'll be a cool surf dude.http://www.addis-welt.de/smilie/smilie/rauchen/rauchen015.gif
My nine year old loves buying all the Roxy gear in NZ as it's cheap compared to Uk prices.
All you need now is to find that 'special' house, then win the lotto. They say it comes in threes.
I am glad that happened with the job it was just the thing you needed and also may take you mind a little bit off the house problems.
Chin up chuck (hope you get back on track, don't give up giving up!)

Hi Moorf
How cool about the job! Is it going well? I can remember 'in my youth' almost getting killed whilst surfing - well, attempting to surf and not very well! (board almost knocked me unconscious) When we settle in Chch I might have to come down and see you for some lessons on the correct way to do it :laugh :laugh
I am sorry to hear about the house - at least you were well prepared. Well, their loss really isn't it?
Hope you find another place that you'll love even more ......

*cough* the nearest I have got to a surf board so far is handing out our rentals!! I can't surf at all! Hence lessons!! :uhoh I can body board - does that count??! :laugh
Hoping to get in some lessons and attempts before the water turns icy again tho! :nice1 What I like about it here in NZ is that surfing is surfing, not a "trendy" thing to watch/do... there are all sorts out there when the surf is up.. I see this old couple (must be 60+) out in their wetsuits quite often and there are lots of surf classes going so you never feel that you are the odd one out :nice1

That house is just amazing. I can only hope I can find one like that...
On a side note, Helen, what thickness of wetsuits are you typically selling? I have a 4/3 (4 thickness on the torso, 3 on the arms/legs) that I used while surfing in Monterey, California where the average water temperature was around 13/14C. How's the water around there? Also, this might be just a US brand, but do you carry apparel brands such as Quicksilver? I'm not your typical California surfer bum, but I do like the clothes :).

We're on a roll this week - our completed ITA being hand delivered to Chch office tomorrow! We now total 195 points :eek up from our 120 at EOI! :nice1
Stephen - re wetsuits - we typically sell 4/3 for colder seasons and 3/2 for summer. The average temps this month (Feb) for Christchurch have been c. 15-18 degrees (it was 19 degrees for a swim contest the other day). The water temp dropped last week perhaps due to the cyclone, but it's up again this week. We don't have Quicksilver in our store although you can get that brand elsewhere - we stock O'Neill and Gull and another brand the name of which escapes me at the moment. Hope that helps! :P
