We have just returned from seeing the Little Ships sail off to Dunkirk from Ramsgate (luckily we are only 10 mins drive away). We were down there at 6am and the harbour and cliff tops were packed with people at that time of the morning. It was absolutely glorious with the sun on the water and already 18 degrees. Made me appreciate what a fantastic part of England I live in.

Anyway, even my kids were choked up with emotion, especially with them all tooting their horns. We will be back on Monday to watch them sail back in.

It got me thinking. Once you move to NZ are things like this still remembered?

You never forget!!!! I was in Bristol During the war. It was a tough time, my mother would not let me be sent away, now I think that one of the saddest things is seeing the little kids at the railway stations with luggage tags tied to them with their names etc. on them going off to who knows what.

I would say things like the little ships are remembered here more than in the UK. - IIRC something like 50,000 Kiwis went to Turkey to celebrate Anzac Day.

A good thing.
