So NZ has a bank holiday for the UK's Queen's birthday and the UK itself has not? Or just the UK companies overseas?

I'm a bit puzzled here... :?

But the new rules mean that now they have to pay you at time and a half and give you a day off in lieu.

yeh, but she is also Queen of New Zealand, not just the UK.

In the UK we don't have a day off anyway.

Perhaps I should have explained myself better. I sit at home in Christchurch supporting computer systems for a company in the UK (basically doing my old job but based in NZ). I therefore have to base myself on the UK Bank Holidays not the NZ ones.

It is something I meant to check but I assumed that being a contractor I only get paid for the hours I work so I don't claim anything for the UK Bank Holidays as I don't work then. I also don't get sick pay :(

The upside is earning UK rates of pay so I am not complaining too much :nice1

...and even better for those in Akld or the upper north Island, this weekend, QBW, is also the BOATSHOW in Auckland, so get along there and check out all them lovely boats/fishing things/snow gear/jetskis etc etc etc that you moved to NZ to enjoy!
cheers, Stu.

I know where you're coming from - I used to be a freelance (so much nicer than the term contractor, I feel :laugh ) myself when it was actually worth it in the UK  Everyone focuses on the extra pay, conveniently forgetting the other side of the coin.

UK contract rates from NZ eh? I'll be round for a sub later :nice1
