Got back to the UK from my recce a few weeks ago. I'll post some pics if I can work out how to do it.

Cant wait to get back out there. Not quite done a deal on the move yet.

Summer weather here 9 degrees blowing a gail and torrential rain, compared to winter weather of 16 degrees and sunny.............

The 2 weeks I was there just convinced me even more that it was the place to be, even more so since my last trip 3 years ago. So what if the wages are lower, it's all about living, not working. Caqnt wait to get out of the rat-race.

A few more thoughts later.

Cheers
Billy

Hi Billy. Dont let the weather lure you into a sense of false security. It aint green out here for nothing. :laugh
Glad you had an inspiring trip. I have PMed you re posting pics. Please give it a go. I know a lot of folk here just love to see Nz through the eyes of other forum members (myself included).

At 10 o'clock last night I was sitting in our garden working my way through a G&T. The phone rang, it was the inlaws calling from NZ ...... they said it was freezing cold, howling with rain and blowing a gale :?

I've never been able to get my head around the popular myth that NZ has fantastic weather (or perhaps I've always visited at the wrong time) - but it doesn't make any difference - I can't wait to get there either. :nice1

Good to know you had a great time Billy. Looking forward to seeing the pics.

Not sure I'd call it fantastic, but it's waaaaaay better than Scotland.

Yesterday I was on a beach in the east coast and it was nice, quite hot, the chances of that kind of weather in the last week of Nov in Scotland are zero.

I suppose it all depends what you're used to, I was outside with a couple of guys from work last week, I remarked it was quite warm (20 degrees and sunshine), they told me it was bloody freezing. That made me very happy.

We didn't get rain yesterday, but after the beautiful sunny day the wind got up last night and it sounded like a hurricaine was blowing outside. We've woken up this morning to another calm, totally clear and warm day. It can't last...

The highs and the lows are both higher than in the UK, so when you get a moderate to good day it still often seems better than in Britain for a comparable time of the year.

But some aspects of NZ weather do seem far more extreme than in the UK - particularly winds and the way in which the rain falls. Chch has about 600mm of rain a year, which is about the same as many parts of England. But it has far fewer rainy days because when it rains boy it rains!!!

We've had storms where in 24 hours we've had more than a month's worth of rain. The end result of this is more days where it doesn't rain, hardly any days where you get the standard grey drizzle of England (although we do get some), and hence the perception that the weather is better here. But if you hit it wrong you can get very very wet. And almost blown away!

Herein the sunny ol' Waikato, it was beaut sunny clear morning until about an hours ago, now it is back to grey to black clouds and heavy showers. Wind, this AM was around 15-20knots I'd say (you can tell I am a fisherman eh :-) ), now with the rain it has dropped to around 10-15kn.

I am sitting here, just organising my trip to the Solomon Islands in a coupla months,, and polishing off the plans for a trip to the Cook Islands a few weeks before the Sols. Mannnn, I'd rather be there now!

Walked in to a bar which was totaly empty apart from 2 guys on 2 pair of step ladders putting up a bit sign, walked under it and without thinking bluntley anounced, 'Are you open', to which the barman replied, 'Ya gat in dincha' to which we both laughed....and had a great pint of boddies... yes boddies! in the dog and bone on Lambton quay. This has got to be the best city in the...... :cheers
