Does anybody know where to buy canned artichoke hearts? I'm referring to the ones that are simply in water (brine?), not roasted and/or marinated in oil (the latter are sold at the Mediterranean Warehouse in Newtown and they are $5.90 for a small jar). Haven't been able to find them anywhere; in fact in several stores where we asked people didn't even know what artichokes were!

Looking for either someplace in Wellington or for online shop within NZ. (Already checked Moore Wilson - no luck).

The Mediterranean Warehouse in Newtown did have them, I bought 3 tins for $5.
If they don't have them anymore you could try Davis trading (mainly asian stuff but also some italian and other "foreign" food) in Petone (I think its in Nevis st) or La Bella Italia in the same street. And while you're in Petone you could check out the Dutch shop on Jackson st and Ontrays in Fitzherbert st. The latter is also known as the South African shop but they have heaps of other stuff including a great choice in cheeses and olives.

Thanks so much! I was at the MW yesterday and they didn't have them, but maybe that was temporary then. Will also check out those other stores, they sound great. :smile
