Hi,
I am planning a job hunting trip to NZ sometime late August / early Sept. Anyone know if that's a good time for jobs in NZ? Probably come over for 10-12 days and line up several inteviews in advance if I can.
More specifically I am looking for a Unix sysadmin / dba, senior level type role outside Auckland (pref ChCh or Wellington at the moment I think). Any more specific advice based on this appreciated.
Cheers,
Yogi.

Hi Yogi - if the experiences of fellow forum members are anything to go by - a job hunting trip is most definately worth it!! With regards to the time of year, maybe some other members who are already local are able to give their views to you.
Best of luck :nice1

I have talked some of the recruiters. They said close to the end of the year is not good for job hunting. Also couple weeks after new year also not a really good time.
Anybody would kind enough to share their experience and knowledge... :smile

I'd say aviod the main holiday period, pretty much rule out the months of dec / jan. Other than that, any time would be fine

Definitely before end of November I’d say. I was told not to bother during December and January.
Other things to think about;
What are your contingency plans?
What if Agencies are slow at coming forward to meet you, most will wait until you contact them upon arrival before hooking up a meeting anyway.
What if the Agencies love you, but, don’t have anything on their books, will you prolong your stay?
What if you get interviews but no jobs materialises? but, you are left feeling positive and it’s only a matter of time.
Will you base yourself in one place, or two, or travel all over? Each has its pro’s and cons, I can explain in more detail if you want me to pm you.
What if you get a job? Will you stay??
This question is sure to come up in your interviews and if you are unwilling to commit to an early start date, they may dismiss you, and why not?
Don’t look at what I’ve said as a negative, just facts that you need to think about, that said, you may have thought about them already and have a plan.
I am glad to help on any specifics if you wish.
John
