NZIS London received our Application for Residence 4 weeks ago today.

Can anyone give me an idea how long their applications have taken to get to the"Accepted in Principle" stage?

I don't want to hassle NZIS too much even though I will have to contact them next week as we are moving out of our house and need to change contact details.

Hi Glenn, not sure what you mean by Application for Residence . Did you complete an on-line EOI (Expression of Interest) or a paper one, or something else?

Yes I submitted my online EOI back in March and was selected on July 7th. I received my Invitation to apply for Residency 6 weeks later and returned it 2 days later on 27th August. I am just waiting for NZIS to check all of my evidence on the application and EOI. They said it would take from 1 - 3 months to check but the waiting is killing me. Our house is sold and we move out next friday so we really need to get our visa. NZIS said it wasn't worth going for a work visa as it would take just as long to process.

I am sure I will prefer New Zealand to Dunfermline. Where abouts does your brother live?

Hi Glenn,

I've just had my Approval in Principle through from London, and unfortunately, it did take the full three months.

Yours may be quicker than that if you don't require NZ police certificates and to have your medicals reviewed by the consultant physician.

No, we just needed UK Police Certs and I don't think there should be any problems with our medicals :hopeso

NZIS said it would be 4 weeks for a work visa and they said it would take just as long for Residency so we didn't bother with the Work visa.

Hope it works out soon. You are way ahead of me, so I can't help. I have seen some posts on some sites suggesting that in MOST cases, its closer to 1 month than 3 if everything is OK. But, thats all anecdotal as they say.

My brother lives in Pitcorthie or somewhere close to it. He seems to have a much more relaxed life than me, but then I guess after a lifetime in the navy and what all those guys went through, civvie street must seem relaxing

Hi Glenn,

Good to hear that you shouldn't have the delays that I encountered. I must say though that my case officer in NZIS London was excellent - she constantly kept me updated with the progress of my application. Useful, as I submitted a paper EOI so didn't have access to the online tracking.

I see that the migrant levy was deducted from my credit card a couple of days ago, so should be getting my passport back soon :o)

Ours, as you know, was 9 days from submitting to approval in principle. I am convinced it was quicker because everything had been verified for my work visa job offer etc. I did need NZ police checks because we have lived over here before so they must have been pretty quick.

I have been told and I don't know how true this is but if you submit a work vias application they are processed in date order so if you need it quickly it gets done ASAP. Can't confirm this though its just what I have read. our work visa came back in 2 weeks.
